Gunboat and Cruiser for Zoners? - Meiun - 10-04-2007
Hello fellow Freelancers. I'm new to the boards here and have two questions.
I have a fighter (Meiun) that I've spent time leveling up and am now looking to get him a gunboat or cruiser... but which would a Zoner choose? I've only found the HUGE Juggernaut for 400 mil in Zoner guard system.
Also... *-=Mr.Munny=-* is my trader and I've given him an Orbital Spa and Cruise ID for RP purposes. He's the Big Spender and I wanted to have him show it off. He'll be sporting the Luxury Liner whenever he's out touring the systems. So, say hi :)

I'd suggest sticking with a gunboat. Cruisers and battleships are for chumps (no offense to the chumps out there). :P
Unfortunately, there aren't any Zoner or other civilian gunboats available. I believe someone was working on one for the next mod version, but I don't know if it was ever finished. But, since Zoners are neutral or slightly-friendly to most other factions, they may be able to get away with another faction's gunboat with a decent RP story behind it. I'd say the Rogue Gunboat or possibly Rhineland Gunboat (Rhineland needs the money, so they might sell a minor capship to any lawful with the cash).

A Zoner with anything more than a well-armed trader or escort fighter is an oxymoron.
I don't care that they sell that retarded barge known as the "Juggernaut" under the Zoner trademark. Cause that's exactly what it's for: sale to the "marks".
If you can't bloody fend off the odd wanker who doesn't understand what it means to be a Zoner with the 12 turrets of a C-trans, or 8 forward-firing mounts on a Kushan Freighter, I suggest you might be happier with another affilliation.
Of course, that's just my....

well, Jinx likes her juggernaut in delta - and it serves a good purpose so far. (*hides*) -
i think a cap ship for zoners is mostly for show off to enforce their political neutrality and to protect their installations - but NOT by shooting at everything that moves like most pirates do.
i haven t had to shoot at any player so far - but usually the pure sight of the juggernaut is enough for most to become peaceful, thanks to the rediculous size of it.
when its about cap ships ... the question is.. why would zoners actually need one. ( and i think there is at least a gunboat in the making ) zoners have no enemies other than nomads; and they are the faction with the greatest number of battleships. (Zoner Juggernaut, Battlestar, Battlestar advanced) - ok they are sometimes IMG, too - but zoners played a good part in deploying those battlestars.
when you just WANT a gunboat. it appears that zoners have a very good relationship to rheinland. a lot of their designs are offered in rheinland. and Rheinland sells out lower end equipment for those that can afford it anyway. ( i think a gungoat would still be acceptable, cruiser and battleship certainly not )
I doubt that liberty, bretonia or kusari would sell gunboats to the zoners, corsairs might - but thats up to the player factions, i wouldn t really expect it. same with outcasts - zoners can be happy to be neutral to both and mostly ignored when they re trading around their precious space. i wouldn t expect them to sell the zoners any high tech equipment - other than weapons ( and that only cause the roleplay is rather softened up with equipment )
Ps.: oh, Jinxs? enslaved tradeship silvermist will probably switch to a luxory liner, cause this ship is mostly taking labour to corfu ( and its more convenient to travel in a luxory liner than in a cargo pod ) - lux liners are civilian and can be protected like gunboats. they might not have the same punch but still good enough to fend off most hostiles. so a luxory liner / prison ship ( if libery sells you one ) is an alternative, too - but those ships are anything bot agile of course.

There's the Kiith Somtaaw light gun boat, maybe you can try that one, since it's outerworld technology it could fit well with the Zoners.

I havn't done anything to it yet....But I was playing around in G-Max and 3DS Max 9, and was wondering if this could go with the Zoners....Maby a bomber....And if I altered a little....maby a Gunboat? I know I have to alter the cockpit....but im wondering if the over all design has potental for a Zoner Bomber.

a general civilian bomber/gunboat - yes. but a zoner vessel? - the cap ships that zoners have are: relics rebuild, but not their own developements. ( cause they have no real need for such a big ship )
if the truce with corsairs breaks up - or with outcasts, there would certainly be a need for capital ships. but at that moment, i don t think zoners would put much efford into developing their own major military ship. they are not a military faction, most of the zoners are peaceful smugglers and traders.
staying neutral means not blowing up stuff - ( in most cases )

There is already a shippack with Star Wars models. Develop your own ideas. Maybe they fit with FL/Discovery and gonna be implemented one day.
I already work on a Zoner Destroyer/Cruiser.
I think of the Zoner ideology. They will have capships for defending purposes. So a bomber would be out of place.
