Pros:
No more Q_Q from miners.
Money remains essentially at the same difficulty to obtain, with less Q_Q
I might actually get a pie rat on my ass once in a while, even without entering the mining systems.
Everybody is happier.
No solo mining. (Trading is the new mining! :o )
Cons:
Miners will Q_Q for a while.
Do contribute.

I certainly wouldn't be happier. I can demand ten millions from miners if I want to and still be fair, instead of two from traders.

And by removing it you remove few factions,you remove major fun for all involved. You remove 2/3 of the player interactions in game. Chances to get something on the line as pirate are smaller then get something in system full with miners/hauers. Yes mining is good because it encourage team-play. I robbed 1 bill from miners not because I am mega- good PvP pirate and kill 5 mining ships against me, but because we done it in a gank- at least 2 or 3 people together. Some miners done it too. They haven't lost anything or much due to pirates. The only one who are not needed are SINGLE miners and SINGLE pirates- in this situation there is no difference between trader being robbed and miner being robbed.

Buff the yields (even if it means to reduce the prices even further). That would make people travel more often instead of sitting in the fields all the time. And by that would give the pirates some other playgrounds than the mining fields.
