The Discovery Olympic Games - Korrd - 10-16-2007
I've been willing to do a Sirius Olympic event for quite a while (in fact, since the first four factions, the AW, RM, SDF and IG formed), but my lack of free time has stopped me from doing so.
Such event would have some PvP (divided by classes, and some fleet battles too), the starflier race, the torch ceremony, and an air show (I'm still refining that one) among other things.
The event would run as the original Olympic games did: factions would have to create an Olympic team in order to participate. Individual players would not be allowed, but faction-made teams only (good to encourage people to join factions too), and from existing factions only. Making new factions just for the event wound not be allowed. That is to avoid everybody and their dog to make one-man, un-RP factions just to participate. Also, all conflict should stop while the games are in progress, as the original Olympiads.
The prices would be monetary, and /or equipment also.
I'm going to ask Igiss to include some commodities for next release, like Olympic medals and trophies. Such commodities would not be buyable, but Admin assigned.
I just got a PM from evil_joker, who has the same idea. And I know that Kane, Cay and others were thinking about this too...
If this works, we could escalate the event, and make it an inter server event. Where a team of the finest pilots from each server could participate...
I'm open to suggestions, ideas, and the like. :yahoo:

Ya, The Angels were going to host the games, Though we never got around to it. But all in all, the idea works and it would be a fun event.:)

Sounds really good fun and should be good for the discovery community.
Only thing is with a "trophie" is that unless Igiss makes it equipable (probaly alot of work) it will just get lost during combat at some point and then somone who did not win will appear to have.
But all in all sounds fun and I will be keeping an eye on how it progresses.

Well, such trophy could be stored on the faction trophy ship / bank....
Also, a chart about the games will be held, where all the players who won a medal [and all participants also] will be shown.
I'm concerned with the event mechanics now, like scoreboard, ladders, and the like.. How should it be?

I like this idea very much, actually. And also, I think the commodities should be mountable, so if, say, Razr and his team from the [SA] win (Just an example...), then they get to equip it on their ships as a token of their superiority in whichever event the team won in. Kind of like a status token if you will. Such as Kiggles said.
I also think that the team should be no more than three people, but that's me.
Is there a list of events proposed yet?
Addendum:
Ladders should be just like the normal Olympics, as this is supposed to be as close to the Olympics as possible, only in Freelancer.
Also, are there going to be "multi-stage events", such as combining 1 vs 1 PvP with 2 vs 2 PvP and the Starflier race, for example?

I like that idea. Can see it happening (Yeah, a Starflier race through several Guard systems or a BS race through thick Asteroid fields, now that would be fun:P).

Making the items mountable means to add hardpoints to a lot of ships. And as Igiss has little time to spare, that would delay the beta for quite a while.
In comparison, adding a few commodities would be much easier.
Team size is something that we need to determine once the different type of matches and events are defined.
Using guard systems would make the race impossible, as the guard ships would kill you while you exit the jump hole.

Whoever reaches the finish first gets the best equipment, second, slightly worse and so on. Then they fight to see who wins.
