Combat Piloting? - Maelstrom - 06-21-2010 Hey Guys and Gals, I've never been good at combat piloting, and so I'm practising. Right now I'm practising with a Gitano, to learn better ship handling and weapons use. The thing is, I need a reference as to where a mediocre to decent pilot should be with the ship and setup I use. What mission price range and npc level I should be able to handle at the least and the most. I fly a Gitano with 2 Barrager III 2 Moonstalker 1 Debilitater Turret Ripper Mines I use max shield (6) and a MK II armor upgrade. I just took on a neverending horde of Bounty Hunters in Bering, to give you all an Idea of my limit right now. I killed a few, but mostly tried avoiding fire and setting up missile launches without jousting. The fight lasted about ten minutes, a bit more, and then I was out of shield and nanobots, mines, and missiles and had to cruise out. They were level 11 and 12 Bounty Hunter Veterans in Barracudas. I could avoid the fire of four while still dealing damage easily enough. When the count got to six I was doing very little damage, but still holding my own well enough. Whenever the count reached more than six all I could really do is dodge and drop mines. I really need to know what the norms are here for combat, and what level of skill is required to be a moderate to decent pvp pilot. I'd appreciate any help, advice, or comments, thanks. Combat Piloting? - Wuselkobold - 06-21-2010 The best possibility to improve combat skill is to fight other, experienced players and ask them for advice. The best places for this are either conneticut or the Guard System of the factions you might be a member of. Regarding your ship and loadouts: The Gitano is a light fighter with very limited capabilities. Its a ship to fly around with to look at stuff, not to shoot at it. Your best choice as a Junker would be either a Bulldog or Collector I guess, with a Universal Armor Upgrade 8 and a decent mix of either Barragers or Codenames and Debilitators. You'll notice that this will make the fighting of NPCs much easier as well;) Combat Piloting? - Birdtalon - 06-21-2010 First you should get better equipment if you want to last longer in PvP. Fighting NPCs isn't really reprisentative of how good you are in PvP anyway. Combat Piloting? - Akura - 06-21-2010 The problem is your tech, you're using a Mk1 ship. Let's compare shall we? Your ship Guns/Turrets: 4/1 Armour: 3,800 Weapon Class: 4-5 Max Sheild Class: 6 Bots/Bats: 28/28 Max Power: 2,800 Power Recharge p/s: 290 A better light fighter (Griffin) Guns/Turrets: 4 Armour: 5,400 Weapon Class: 7-9 Max Sheild Class: 8 Bots/Bats: 35/35 Max Power: 8,000 Power Recharge p/s: 800 Now that's the ship itself, now let's look at the guns. Your Guns (Barrager III) Weapon Class: Five Hull Damage: 132 Sheild Damage: 66 Energy per shot: 38 Hull Damage per second: 660 Shield Damage per second: 330 Energy used a second: 190 Refire: 5.00 Range: 600 Speed: 600 Better Guns (Barrager V) Weapon Class: Nine Hull Damage: 400 Sheild Damage: 200 Energy per shot: 101 Hull Damage per second: 2000 Shield Damage per second: 1000 Energy used a second: 505 Refire: 5.00 Range: 600 Speed: 600 See the difference? You're not a bad pilot, you're just using bad equipment. Combat Piloting? - Maelstrom - 06-21-2010 Hello Guys and Gals, Thanks for the input and advice. The Wiki page looks like it's going to be a lot of help. I know I'm not using a good ship for pvp, and haven't engaged in pvp with it, really. I was using it to learn on because it doesn't require hours of trading to get it. I thought that learning the basics, and the differing styles needed to fly different ships would stand me in better stead than buying an endless parade of ships I can't use. If my style worked I planned on picking up a bull dog and working with that. Thanks for the feedback, I guess I just need to find a sparring partner. After raising the cash for the bull dog. Combat Piloting? - jxie93 - 06-21-2010 You shouldn't be considering combat yet at this stage, you should focus on acquiring some more pixel money as a basis for your equipment and ship. I recommend purchasing a freighter instead of a fighter, they can both haul cargo earning you money and fight surprisingly well. |
