Idea for future mod - weylin - 10-21-2007 I thought it would be interesting if you could purchase different engine types at a base. Engines could have have different stats too. You could have high speed low acceleration ones, or slower high acceleration. and other combinations. Im pretty sure this can be modded. But what do you think about the idea? Idea for future mod - McNeo - 10-21-2007 What would stop a battleship pilot purchasing an engine which make his battleship get into cruise fastest? The biggest problem is the 5 second charge time on battleships, allowing the pilot to shield run (which is punished very harshly) or just run away when he's about to die. Idea for future mod - I_m_rdy - 10-21-2007 This wouldn't work. Maybe different engine effects to make the ship look more individual, but no more. Idea for future mod - Unseelie - 10-21-2007 wait. our current upgrades work by multiplying base values...which actually stratifies the differences more so, I could see this working. Igiss will probably shoot it down though. Idea for future mod - Malaclypse 666 - 10-21-2007 Shades of "Blue Knights" yet again.. meh. Once again, this gives those brave souls who spend their day plying the Harris/McDuff route in order to buy their supertubs somewhat of an "uber" advantage. "Gee, I'm not only gonna get capship lvl 6 armor, but a superfast engine on my BS!! ..Faction? What faction? I just wanna... KILL!" I would be completely and wholeheartedly against any such "options". He with the most cash wins.. not on my watch. But then, that's just l'il ol' me. Idea for future mod - RingoW - 10-21-2007 Techically it is possible. It will need to create new equipment with different settings, but who will do this whole stuff. @ weylin: Get familiar with all Freelancer editing programms and make it. Finally you can implement it in the FLMM as your own mod. In the Crossfire mod they used different speed for the shipclasses. I can't remember right, but for example: Light Fighter: 120 Heavy Fighter: 100 Very Heavy Fighter: 90 Freighter: 80 For Disco, it will unbalance the current system. AoM Idea for future mod - weylin - 10-21-2007 I didnt plan on there being different cruise engine charge times. Just having various engines that fit between low speed and high accel, or high speed and low accel. Basicly a high accel would be better for someone who wants a bit of extra acceleration to better dodge incomming gun fire, but will be unable to outrun enemys all that well. The high speed version would be good for someone who does charging attacks with torpedoes and missiles, or for capital ships that acceleration doesnt meen much for anyways. I dont like the idea of it being an upgrade, but a trade off between the two of them. Idea for future mod - Unseelie - 10-21-2007 actually.....I like that idea Idea for future mod - Drake - 10-21-2007 ' Wrote:actually.....I like that idea Yeah... It's a trade off, like the new scanners (some have long max range, shorter cargo-scan range, and some have shorter max range but longer cargo-scan range). As long as it doesn't fiddle with cruise speeds/start up times, and, as Mal said, doesn't turn into just one more thing people "need" to be the "best" (armor upgrades are already bad enough). Idea for future mod - kiggles - 10-21-2007 Yea but since you are generaly at full speed so do not need to speed up in the middle of a fight everyone would buy a fast one as it would make it easier to evade fire. Only way this would work at all is if the fast one was the current speed and the other was slower as it would not change very much bar the few people who would like to get up to speed faster, though when talking about non cruise speed it only takes a second to get to full anyway. So personally it is good to see people thinking of things but I am not a fan of this particualr idea. Kiggles:mellow: |
