Quote:Powergaming - roleplaying another player's character without his or her consent. Extremely frowned upon.

Now, in just about every form of RP communications on the forum there is the "Incoming Transmission" line. Let's see the definition of incoming.

Quote:Definition: arriving, approaching
Antonyms: outgoing

So, IMO this means that another player is role playing my players... eh.. computer? Letting my player know there is an arriving transmission. Is this not powergaming? And regardless, do you really think it makes sense to write "Incoming Transmission" and then type a message not directed towards yourself?

Thoughts please.

No.

Don't be silly. xD

If the person doesn't want to accept it, they can just ignore it.

That's like saying I'm powergaming my opponants ship without their permission because I killed them in space.

You aren't roleplaying someones ship if you kill them in space, you're affecting their own roleplay. There is a difference, rather large if you ask me. This topic is about the former, actually roleplaying for someone else - ergo powergaming.

Yes, I don't have to "accept" it, but the fact is that the message has been created without consent regardless. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Basically when I write "Incoming transmitting" I'm "powerplaying" sending you the e-mail.

So if I wanted to send you an e-mail now, you would get it. You would always get the mail unless you blocked me or had some spam filter on. You can easily roleplay having a spam filter.

Keep in mind I'm not trying to come off as hostile or whatever, just trying to understand really.

So you're "powerplaying" sending me a transmission, then "powerplaying" me reading the transmission (without consent, regardless if I block it or not), and that's okay?

Dude, how this powergaming harms you? I see no way, why to make fuzz then. No powergaming is not good, but this form is really harmless.
Why he would be powergaming that you read it. He can't force you to read it, doh. Just put your notice, "That transmission was blocked" or something and voila.

Been bugging me awhile now... - Fro - 07-20-2010

Harmless? All powergaming is harmless, we aren't physically doing anything to each other. I could flip this argument in a scenario wherein I powergame your character into hypnosis and then forced suicide, of course, you could just block it and.. viola! Right?

"No powergaming is not good"

I think you misunderstood me. No one is powergaming that you have read the message. only that you have got the message.

There were few "worldwide" transmittings that I decided to cut off from some people. For example as a Kishiro Leader I chose not to have a message broadcasted to Kishiro. While that man can chose to broadcast it, i have ability to block it.

Semantics, that's you do. But for what reason? You don't want to receive transmissions? It's like saying that it's a rude thing to send an SMS to -your- telephone, since you bought it, you pay the bills, so why someone else should call -you-? Hope you don't take it personal, but I found that funny. Maybe my sense for irony abandoned me.

I'm roleplaying my character sending a message, you roleplay yours by reading it or not.

So let's sanction everyone for writing "incoming transmission"?
