Getting things off my chest before my vacation - Tomtomrawr - 08-21-2010 So we've been chatting in the RFP Skype chat, and somebody brought up the phrase when we were requesting a Gunship. It was something like "You don't see Police in RL driving tanks." This got me thinking, and then I realised something. Let's say that systems are cities. New York is New York, New Berlin is Berlin, Stuttgart is Stuttgart, etc. So here's a question for you: How many criminals do you see in RL driving tanks? Driving them through cities, demanding money from people? You don't see any, because even as the plan to get a tank into a city is being created by criminals, the Military are brought in. That's my first point. It would be a hell of a lot more plausible to see the Police driving tanks through cities like New York than criminals, so maybe this should be thought about and the number of criminal gunboats in house space reduced. My next point is the Military presence in these systems/cities. In cities like New York and London, how many Military patrols do you see? Not like parades honouring them, like them actually "on the beat" looking for criminals? Not many. But from the number of Military patrols in the houses of Sirius, and the presence of their bases, I'd think that every house was a Military Dictatorship. So this also got me thinking. I know that changing the number of NPCs wouldn't be a very good idea (there are still the pirates who decide to charge at Manhattan, so we need battleship patrols to stop them) but what about restricting the patrols of Military players in the core systems. Think about it. Why are Police factions so unpopular compared to their Military counterparts? Because they have the same ZoI and are thus constantly fighting over the control of that ZoI. Not exactly the same, because the Police one is sort of encased in a larger Military one. So if the Police factions control the core systems and the Military control the border systems and are occasionally called in by the Police for assistance when needed against larger unlawful threats (and I mean large) then they both have their own ZoIs are so the number of players in each can be balanced. Or maybe even a larger number going for Police factions, who knows. But I know that nothing will be changed. I just wanted to put the idea out for people to think about. Have a nice day, and enjoy your Military Dictatorships. Getting things off my chest before my vacation - Pinko - 08-21-2010 Actually, some police around the world have access to tanks. That includes the French police, which is part of the army. <.< Getting things off my chest before my vacation - Tomtomrawr - 08-21-2010 ' Wrote:Actually, some police around the world have access to tanks.>.> Getting things off my chest before my vacation - Kazinsal - 08-21-2010 I too would like to see less large pirate vessels in houses. It's illogical, to say the least, to see on a regular basis, a spam of Tridentes, Hacker Gunships, and Rogue Gunboats, deep within Liberty space. Especially when said large vessels are lolpirating a poor little trader for five million credits. Last time I brought out my personal Tridente was because there was a Corsair gunboat. Not to pirate, but to wtfpwn a lolsair. Maybe the major pirate factions should just say "enough is enough, no unlawful gunships in our house". Similar to what the Rogues (supposedly) did with the Tridente spam. ' Wrote:Actually, some police around the world have access to tanks. That's why France can't win any wars. The police has all their tanks. Unrelated to the topic. Getting things off my chest before my vacation - tansytansey - 08-21-2010 I prefer to compare Space to the 1800s Oceans than to modern day life. How many pirates did you see robbing merchants in a dinghy? Getting things off my chest before my vacation - Pinko - 08-21-2010 Blackbeard had one of the largest fleet of the world, and he was but a pirate. Yeah, quite a few of them commanded warships... Which would get you sanctioned on Disco unfortunately. Other than that, make Shire mount a cd. :nyam: Getting things off my chest before my vacation - Kubotan - 08-21-2010 ' Wrote:Blackbeard had one of the largest fleet of the world, and he was but a pirate. I bet the people who got pirated called him a PvP-whore (and probably a cancer of earth.) Getting things off my chest before my vacation - Blaze - 08-21-2010 Dude..
