ooc Non-Engagement Treaties - RickJames - 12-01-2007 So I have a big problem. Some people like to engage me as soon as possible. Particularly right after I exit a trade lane, JH, JG. This gives me about one second to scan for ID and prepare myself. I really do not like it. It has caused me to become very nervous when I suddenly see someone on my scanner for the first time at 1.5k. And caused me to engage a few folks I would rather not have. I would rather RP the majority of the time instead of pvp. So this is what I would like to do. Anyone who would like to agree not to engage someone as soon as they are in range and instead talk a little before hostilities happen; post your characters names here. I and anyone who wishes will keep this list. If said situation happens we all can know that the person we meet is not going to, right off the bat, open fire. This might help cut down on a lot of the pvp going on. I do not fly around looking for people to pvp. What I do is fly around looking for folks who ARE trying to pvp. If your not one of those, even if your a pirate/criminal, then talk to me. Cause most of the time I'm just trying to make sure your not a killer. It's also probably not a good rule to sit at the end of trade lanes, JH's, or JG's if your a pirate/terrorist/criminal. That is just asking for trouble from most lawful military/police/security players. Unless your trying to pvp and or pirate folks. However, this thread is for exactly those pirates who generally do sit at TL, JG, and JH's. If you want to have an agreement with me to do some talking if I stumble on to you, let me know. I have no problem chilling and doing some rp if I know your not going to just open fire on me. In fact most of the time that happens I never have to fight. However, if you do decide you want to fight we can set it up all politely and stuff. This is not to say just opening fire is not a good tactic. It is. It also makes a lot of RP sense to do. It also makes things very exciting. There should be folks on doing just that. Otherwise things would be boring. This is just my idea to help me and others who are not always looking for pvp to do some RP and not jump the gun all the time and possibly ruin some RP opportunities. This is not to say folks who do not agree to this do not RP. When my LSF character jumps into the omegas, I do not expect Brotherhood folks to sit and chat, and thats super. People can even put limitations in their agreement such as, if I see you in liberty space I wont just open fire on you. But if I see you in omicron-gamma, I will just open fire on you. Things like that. Anyway, im tired and rambling/ranting now. time for bed. ooc Non-Engagement Treaties - Badger - 12-01-2007 A quick suggestion Rick, have your chat screen open when you're idling in space, and list all characters by system. That way you can tell who is already in your system and who is in neighbouring ones. This gives you a heads-up if you recognise a character to be from a hostile faction, and if you treat unknown characters as if they could be hostile you might find you're better prepared for that chance meeting in space. If you're playing the system defence role, it's worth chucking a message up in system chat as soon as you notice them enter the system. Hostile or no response normally means bad news so you can take it from there without even having the players on your HUD. Though you might get some responses on this thread, I'd wager 90% of the players on Disco will miss this and carry on playing how they were before, which doesn't help you very much. Unfortunately asking random players to be chivalrous rarely works in practice, but there are enough "good" players out there that will respond to a message in system chat. ooc Non-Engagement Treaties - tfmachad - 12-01-2007 The closest to that in the rules is this: Quote:6.6 PvP combat is allowed only on roleplay basis. The pilot who is attacking must scan for an ID prior to the attack. Relying on general reputation status (red/neutral/green) without scanning for the ID is not allowed. ...so we don't exactly have a rule that states the other player MUST RP hostile inclination towards you. BUT I think it's good form to show your hostility prior to attacking someone. I usually get in range, check the ship (scan for ID), start flying circles to avoid being hit while typing, and say something like, "Hostile in system.", or "Hostile found", or just "Hasoid" because I'm already getting shot at. :D If the situation allows me I will RP more than just that. I'll go as far as warn civilian ships and tell them to find safe docks and stuff like that. But sometime that is just not possible. ooc Non-Engagement Treaties - Maza - 12-01-2007 ' Wrote:So I have a big problem.Well if someone attacks you then you have every right to defend yourself: 5.3 If a player is attacked*, he has a right to defend himself regardless of who is attacking. There are no restrictions for self-defense. *For purposes of these Rules occasional shooting or shooting "for fun" does not count as an attack if it does not result in draining shields to 50% or lower or hull damage. Intentional ramming of any large ship is also considered an attack. The way i interpret this is that you dont have to scan for an ID(it says no restrictions) if you are sure that the attacker isnt doing it "for fun" but in fact is out to kill you. That makes rule 6.6 void the way i see it... But i dont know, i might be wrong. . ooc Non-Engagement Treaties - Jwnantze - 12-01-2007 yeah, see, if I notice an Osirus making an apperance in Alpha of course Im gonna shoot first and ask later. Esprecialy since Im usually in a fighter/bomber, and ever second counts. ooc Non-Engagement Treaties - RickJames - 12-02-2007 All good ideas. I use the chat screen often but now that you mention it, I could be using it even more. Than you. Nice reminder. With RickJames I have zero problems with these kinds of situations. Why I like a BS. Folks can open fire on me all they want and it does not bother me at all. And I can take my time and not worry about having to fire back or even begin evasive manuvers. Nor does RickJames sit and idle at the exits of tl, jg, jh. All he does is orbit crete 90% of the time I'm on him. Experience with my lawful characters is what prompted me to write this thread. They all fly fighters, I hardly ever idle in space and when I do it is normally at least 3k from a TL, JG, JH, or base. The situation in question happens after my lawful character exits a base, jh, jg, tl. The keeping tabs on the chat screen better should help a lot with this. ooc Non-Engagement Treaties - Zapp - 12-02-2007 I would love to have some RP chat, but most traders/lawfuls aren't interested. They hit cruise ASAP, so I have to open fire real fast to stop them, and let them know I'm serious. I've gotten to the point where if they run at all, after I make my demands clear, I kill them unless they ask to pay. That's how bad it is. ooc Non-Engagement Treaties - tfmachad - 12-02-2007 Not fair, I always chitchat with you, Zapp.:P ooc Non-Engagement Treaties - kingvaillant - 12-02-2007 Everytime I see an ennemy I say something in the chat like ''Pirate! Die!'' or ''Violator of liberty laws must be terminated'' or ''Engaging pirate'' But People arent giving me the time to RP before entering a PvP fight and well that's super-hyper-extremely lame... But sometimes It is just because player A engage player B without warning, then kill him. After Player B, Who dont want to die when typing something in RP, Engage player C without warning. and the cycle continue and get bigger to finaly become out of control... Well the rules stipulate nothing about chatting before a PvP fight and I dont want a rule saying we should. I consider chatting before PvP as a Gentleman rule and a way to promote RP ooc Non-Engagement Treaties - Zapp - 12-03-2007 Gronath the merc, and then you have the pilot in the RM... who's your trader? I know there are a few good traders, but for the most part, not so much... There's actually this one that never flies alone, and somehow the person he flies with is bad at running, and I end up always letting him go... |
