The Best of Times - atlantis2112 - 10-16-2010
Hi everyone.
I know it's been a while since you've heard from me. And the truth of the matter is, I've needed some time off to do some thinking, and I believe I've come to a decision.
I don't like the way the community has been going lately. It doesn't soley rest on the developers, or on the admins, or the faction leaders, or the rest of the community. It's a cumulative effect going straight downhill in my eyes, and I don't like it. I'd go into more detail, but I'd just end up offending and hurting a lot of people, and Discovery doesn't need any more of that than it already has. I don't want that to be my "legacy" so to speak. I just want to be remembered as the guy who ran the VR, and tried to have a good time while doing so. That was VR's motivation since day one, and even before then, the SoGP's motivation - have a good time.
As of late, I've been having difficulties achieving this. The lack of new things to do with the Raiders, constant trivial, meaningless battles, just... lack of direction, has taken its toll. So, without further ado, and exactly one year after October 16th, 2009:
As of today, I'm disbanding the Vagrant Raiders as an official faction on Discovery Freelancer. Furthermore, I myself am resigning from the community.
I just want to say thanks to the following:
Shagohad - You've always been there for me, through thick and thin, and you're one of the people I respect the most in this community. Thank you.
Durandal - We've had our differences from time to time, but overall things wouldn't have turned out the same way without you.
JihadJoe - Been a pleasure knowing and talking to you man.
Vagrant Raiders - You guys have really been my only motivation to stay around for the past 6 or so months. Just so everyone knows - Thexare and I intend to keep the "group" of VR around, try to find some new activities that we can participate in as a group of friends. If any of you decide to leave, I wish you the best of luck and thank you for all of the great times on this rollercoaster of a year and a half.
Of course there are others. But you guys have been my longest standing friends, and again, just thanks for the fun times.
Please don't think this is a an impulse decision, nor one I take lightly. I've distanced myself over the past few weeks to give myself time to think and I believe this is for the best, for me. On a purely selfish note, I'm a more than a month into my final year of high school, and I'd rather do things that I don't have to feel guitly about dropping if the time comes around where I need to hunker down and study. I've also decided that I'm fed up with the overall attitude of the community, the negativity, the lack of productivity and freedom. There's no final nail, moreso a "straw that broke the camel's back" so to speak.
I've put all of my "affairs in order" so to speak. I've got nothing left to ask for, so please don't waste forum space by begging for ships or money. Everything that I have has been given to the people that I believe deserved it.
Discovery has run its course for me. Thank you for the good times in the past 18 months. I wish you all the best in the future, perhaps I'll drop a line in that future, at some point.

As a close friend of Josh in real life, I definitely know how hard it is for him to do this. He put so much time and effort into having a fun time on this server... and I stand by his decision. It takes a lot of will to do what he did... nothing but support Josh.
