Very bad problem.. - Caribe - 12-07-2007 Ok so yesterday I got my 500GB external drive and have been backing up info from every computer here because they are full to the brim. Now I have this 60GB disk that had some memory lost problems. No big problem I ran a recovery program and was able to pull out 20GB worth of info. Now here's the problem: Everything is labled as clusters (which is ok with me for now) however when trying to look at some things the files are all freaking messed up.... Example: A word doc that shows odd writing, or an image that shows nothing. Now I am going to completely ignore the text documents but I need the pics ... Is there anyway I can make the pics show? Very bad problem.. - Mr_3ppozz - 12-07-2007 You probably used a backup-program, most of them have a re-gain option. The software writes the data on a designated location and places them in clusters. Most of that data will be compromised in some way, you need something to change the data back to there original state. As i said most recovery progs have that build in. Try F1 and look it up in the help file of your recovery-program Very bad problem.. - Caribe - 12-07-2007 Well then this program must be the odd ball in the group ... I have read the manual the right way, the wrong way and the side way. There is nothing of what you mention on here. Note: I used PC Inspector File Recovery. Very bad problem.. - Mr_3ppozz - 12-07-2007 Hmm... Does it save the files with their original extension? Say *.jpg/*.bmp/*.doc? ifnot then there should be another tool, from the same manufacturer. Ifso, then i think that 20gig you pulled off is just a bunch of lonesome useless scrap Very bad problem.. - Cruise - 12-07-2007 you most probably have but have you unticked hide extentions for known file types. If not try that and rename the image with a .jpg Very bad problem.. - Caribe - 12-07-2007 Most of the images look like this: [attachmentid=3831] And when you try to open them it says image not available. Very bad problem.. - trekster - 12-07-2007 It saved the image of the files not in windows format clusters are harder to undelete if you don't know where they actually go. If you have the drive still but not saved over it I would suggest Active Programs either Active Undelete or active Partition recovery http://www.active-undelete.com/ http://www.partition-recovery.com/ I had more luck with those programs I hope that helps |
