Sigmaking Experiments - Guest - 12-16-2007

I'm currently looking for a new sigmaking style. In order to do this, I'm experimenting with several methods of making sigs in order to find one with a large amount of potential.

Seeing as a great number of people here have recently stopped making sigs, I'll offer you a chance to become part of the experiment. Your sig may not turn out well, but chances are it will be at least relatively unique.

Alternatively, I'd also like some input as far as what's working well. I have a hard time judging between my own sigs, so any help in that area would be great. Below are the sigs that have been made since I started experimenting with new styles...

35kB (possibly unfinished; looks bad on Disco forums)

8kB (earlier version; unfinished)

As I've said, I wouldn't mind input as to which of these shows more promise. Also, those who would like sigs can request them in styles either similar to one of these or completely new.

One more thing: Here are two examples of previous work; this is where I'm coming from:

(Both of those are examples of my previous style, dubbed "Halogen.")

the logo and blending technique looks OK, but i can t really see much of a pattern there.. i mean, i cannot really recognize the ship - or what it has to do with your character. if thats what its supposed to be.

it very much depends on what you want to "show" in your sig.... your char, your affiliation, - you re free to show whatever you like - however, the only feedback i can give is that they look well done - allthough i don t know what they really display.

i don t think the kb are too important - i d go for a good quality - cause jpegs of that size will hardly ever be too big

im already a test subject (hence my awesome sig) but i should have some more screens for you today, more accurately screens of my shiny new hessian crusier

@Jinx: Which sig are you talking about? If you're referring to the second from the bottom, that's one of the old ones and it's an Auto Assault sig.
About Jpegs: I only use them on special occasions; I normally prefer the .png format. I've seen sig filesize limits as low as 24kB on some forums, so I take compression rather seriously.

@Vape: Cool; I'll get on it after you PM them to me. A side view would be great this time.

was referring to Vapes sigs. i like the style of them - but i cannot recognize what ship they show, which is sad, cause .... well, the sig is some sort of showcase for the char - and her/his ship.

the first is a liberty gunboat
the second and the one im using right now is a raven's claw

@Jinx: Hmm, okay. You have an excellent point there. My goal with those sigs was to keep the ships from looking out-of-place. Also, the Raven's Claw proved too dark to render due to the screenshot I was using.

The original was much larger, of course. In any case, it was my fault for asking for a screenshot of the ship shooting. I was attempting to model it after the success of the Deimos sig (last on the list, an older work), and it backfired. That's why I made the second Vape sig, which also didn't turn out particularly well.

In any case, I'll keep what you've said in mind, and attempt to make Vape's next sig more understandable.

Edit: I think Vape's next sig will end up being similar to the one at the very top of this post, but with some serious improvements as far as color scheme and transparency go.

A-by all means, use me as a testy:)
B-I think Vapes' is the best, I really like how the gunboat blends in with the background, and how the sig itself blends in with the forums color. The second one, I like how the name is printed on it, but that engine/shot thing is a little confusing to me.

Hmm wonder if you can make a new sig for me in: Paint!
