So, I have this Toshiba machine and all, and it has this incessant program called Notebook Maximizer. I have, for the longest time, been trying to get rid of it, because it makes a new Icon on my desktop every time I boot up the computer and is very, very ugly on my pretty desktop setup. Problem is, there's no Notebook Maximizer in the add/remove programs list...any idea how I get it gone -.-

Yep, find it in your program files folder or just browse your harddrive for it.. and then delete the whole folder of the program

Fu8nny, I have toshiba laptop and although its old, I never have such problems with it.
The thing is, mate, the file is kinda like winlogon. You can delete it, but it'll always come back. So, you have to literally go into the Windows Folder, find the target of the shortcut, and kill the target and ONLY the target. Make sure the program isnt running, and be EXTREMELY careful.
Toshiba likes to put their stuff in with Window's crap. So it makes your life difficult. Just right click on the icon, find the target (Under shortcut tab), and then kill the target after making sure the program is NOT running.

aight, here's what you do.
first, find out what the process is called (just look in Task manager's processes tab to find it while it's running.)
then click start -> run -> type in "msconfig" (sans quotation marks of course).
Once you have the window pulled up, click on the tab labeled "startup".
Find the process in the list, uncheck the box next to it and then click apply.
While you're in there, you might as well uncheck anything else you don't want running while your computer boots (aol and itunes are notoriously bad in these respects). Be careful though, some of the processes in there are essential for your computer to boot properly.
You'll need to restart your computer for it to go into effect.
