Server Event: The Run of the Magnificent - Firebird - 01-15-2006

Anyone who hasnt been following the story of the Magnificent in the sci-fi thread, heres the short-form.

The HMCS-Magnificent has been taken over by a huge number of Nomads. It will be flying from Yaren Base, Omicron Delta to Planet Manhatten, New York. Its goal: crash into Manhatten.

Nomad Supporting Players and/or Factions (Grouped together)
Players that are in league with the Nomads will be working to provide cover for the Magnificent during the run. These players will start in Omicron Delta.

Anyone Else Participating (Grouped together)
The Magnificent is to be destroyed and must not reach Manhatten. These players should be prepared to intercept the ship in the following systems Alaska, Connecticut, or New York. Suggest being organized. These players may not start in Omicron Delta but can start anywhere else.

Once the Magnificent is in New York, it will abide by the no PvP rule by diverting power to engines. However in New York, Im giving permission for everyone to fire ONLY on the Magnificent. Note - Nomad supporting players are to abide by the no PvP rule in New York. Thus, once the Magnificent reaches New York (assuming it gets that far), its just running to the finish and hoping to make it.

There will likely be several runs made with different restrictions. A story will be written based on the most interesting outcome.

For the first run (these restrictions may be changed on following runs):
a) Novas may be used by either side.
b) The Magnificent may use SB/NB.
c) All players may use SB/NB.
d) No respawn limit.
e) Switching characters will NOT be permitted during a run.

The run ends when the Magnificent dies.
Using F1 to regenerate shields will not be permitted during any of the runs.

In the event that the Magnificent is severely affected by lag or causes lag on the majority of players, another ship may volunteer and be substituted for the run.

Sign up for the event is not mandatory but is encouraged. Late arrivals are welcome to join at the beginning of a run (provided they know whats going on). A camera following the Magnificent would be sweet (just watch for stray fire and try to keep up).

Any questions or comments feel free to post or PM me.

Time wise, I'm planning for 3pm Pacific Time (11pm GMT), Saturday January 21.

Any changes will be posted separately in this thread.

Over the next week, if anyone wants to try test their metal against the Magnificent and give me some practice it will be in Omicron Delta. Just let me ditch my last set of nomads at Cambridge :D

Prize money will likely be awarded to the group that wins each run, amount will depend on how much trading/registrations I get done during the week and the number of runs :D

SOUNDS LIKE FUN!

Whoa.. whoa.. whoa.

The server rules can only be waived by either myself or Igiss.

For the purposes of this RP event.. I'll go so far and say it's fine by me. However, please for future reference contact Igiss or myself regarding waiving the no PvP rule in New York.

As for Novas not being used.. you're being a bit picky, but I can understand why. the high damage ratio it gives out can cause a problem, but I gotta ask.. What kind of ship is the Magnificent ? If it's a Cap ship, Novas won't make much of a difference.

I guess I get to shore up some of my stuff in new York. :)

yeah If where attacking a Battleship with a Lvl 7 armour upgrad all the attackers can do is damage it....theres no way to kill it b4 it reachs Manhattan. and if so its kinda pointless if the Magnificent can use SB and nanos, it would be impossible to kill even with novas.

Ya, um sorry about the lack of warning on that part. My bad. :$

Just to clarify the point thought.
For the event, the no PvP in New York would be in effect. (Unless the admins are willing to drop it entirely) But if anyone shoots the Magnificent in NY during the event:
a) i won't fire back
b) i won't complain and didn't see anything

Magnificent is a fully armored Bretonian Battleship. I figured allowing Novas would make it way too easy. Whole bunch of fighters waiting around a jump hole, the ship comes through...bam...done. That's the other reason for doing multiple runs, in the event that it sucks and there's no challenge we make quick adjustments to make it more even (such has SB/NB, having no torps, having Novas, whatever).

Sounds like fun, and your going to need help.

My Phantom fighter is with ya!

Ok. Let me test a few theories out.

IIRC, Novas don't do much damage to ANY battleship. if you're gonna use NB/SB's on a battleship, allow Novas otherwise you're gonna make it damn near impossible.

Korrd and I could fire a barrage of Novas

and still not do much damage. That's the nature of BS"s and missles. :(

k, if that's the case then i have no prob with having novas. As I said I just want it to be a challenge but if this is correct (which it most likely is) than it would likely shift things too much the other way.

OK, FIRST ROUND NOVAS. (first post editted)

I'll be there to help with my phantom character too. :D
