Blogs - Jimothy - 01-25-2011 [font=Comic Sans Ms] PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS NOT FLOOD - JUST TO POINT OUT Right, down to business. Blogs, loads of people have them, and I've recently started my own - called Best Left Un-Read and would like to: A) Advertise it - shamelessly, of course... But more importantly: B) Start a sensible topic of conversation about blogs. When I was much younger, I kept a diary of my day-to-day activities (Aged like, 10-12ish) and recently found and re-read some of it. Having felt nostalgic, and having enjoyed hearing my younger self's thoughts on the world, I got to wondering if I looked back at my 18-year-old self in say, 5 years time, what would I think. I've started my blog, because of this, and I like writing, yet infrequently have anything to write about since leaving college, and as such, decided it would be a good experience for me to write about my day-to-day life. Now, my life is wholly un-remarkable, and I don't write with others enjoyment as my foremost thought, I write because I want to. Now, until recently, I considered blogs to be tools for attention-seekers, and never considered writing one myself. I'd like to hear peoples's opinions on this, if you have a blog, read them, or have nothing to do with them at all, why do you write them? Why do you read them? Do you read because they're interesting, or because their authors are your friends? And if not, why not, how do you view bloggers. I'm merely curious as to this community's views, and would appreciate it if people can remain non-judgemental and polite, and by all means shunt this to flood if it isn't taken as a serious discussion about opinions. Blogs - Vexykin - 01-25-2011 Don't write, don't read. Seems like a waste of time for me... Blogs - Boss - 01-25-2011 The only "blogs" I could be accused of reading are the columns written by various people at Escapist Magazine, Cracked, Wired, and Ars Technica. I don't write a blog because, unlike many people on blogging sites, I'm keenly aware of the fact that I'm really frikken boring to read about. The overweening majority of blogs on livejournal, blogger, et cetera are nothing more than the pensive ramblings of blithering morons. Hence why I don't read them. Blogs - Jimothy - 01-25-2011 ' Wrote:The overweening majority of blogs on livejournal, blogger, et cetera are nothing more than the pensive ramblings of blithering morons.Oh, I see you've already read mine then. I will agree, most are not worth reading, mine included, as I say, I don't write for the readers, I write for me. You say you'd be boring to read about, I think I am too, but apparently I'm not so bad... Blogs - Boss - 01-25-2011 ' Wrote:Oh, I see you've already read mine then. I'm guessing that's humor, but I wasn't aiming that at you. I haven't read your blog, so I can't comment on it. I've just made the mistake of clicking links and winding up on a Tardlight fan blog, among other things. Blogs - Hancock - 01-25-2011 I read Discovery GC forums, no time for silly blogs. Blogs - Boss - 01-25-2011 ' Wrote:I read Discovery GC forums, no time for silly blogs. :$ ...There is that, too. Blogs - Harus - 01-25-2011 tl:dr don't write, don't read. I think they're silly. ' Wrote:[...] I've just made the mistake of clicking links and winding up on a Tardlight fan blog, among other things.I'll admit, there are an awful load of blogs out there that are not worth the read (Mine included). And as for twilight, pft, are sparkly-fairy-wanna-be-vampires really so interesting people have to write about them day in and day out? It boggles the mind. ' Wrote:I read Discovery GC forums, no time for silly blogs. And this, wow, I think I lurk enough here as it is, I mean, untill yesterday, it had been about a month (If not more, I forget) since I last posted here, but it's my homepage, and I check posts usually multiple times a day. More Lurking needed maybe? And if I may: ' Wrote:[...] don't write, don't read. Blogs - frozen - 01-26-2011 i dont have a blog, although due to recent events (recent = last 2-3 months) ive considered writing one. not just about thoughts on my minds, my opinions, but about practical stuff that could help people regarding say.. 3ds max, or freelancer modding, etc. i used to read a blog, was one of my cousins. duno why she started one, or how she got into it, but she had a blog ~3 years ago where she used to write down short stories. i used to love reading them due to the content and the way she wrote them, but i guess she just stopped cuz of uni etc. ever since then, i havent really found a blog worthy of my attention/passing my time with, because ive got too much going on to be able to dedicate time for blogs to be honest. if however someone showed me a blog worth reading, i would definitely have a look at it. actually, on a side note, there is one blog i check out weekly. conceptships.blogspot that guy posts conceptual designs, drawings made by artists etc, pretty good place for artists to draw inspiration from/use as references etc. |
