System claims... - Korrd - 01-16-2006 Well, how many systems do you think a faction should be able to control? System claims... - Igiss - 01-16-2006 Edited poll. Making each number from 2 to 8 will make it unrepresentative, no one wants to set a precise number. So I've made 2-5 and 6-10 instead. System claims... - Profile - 01-16-2006 Voted None ! Except if the clan is buying it... So I could be ok for 1 homeworld system ! System claims... - f2k - 01-16-2006 I vote none. The systems belong to the Houses not to the player clans. If we make it so players can actually join one of the current factions, then it might be ok but otherwise not. Also, all this you may not enter our territory is a bad thing. Why should some players be able to decide where the rest of us go? System claims... - Dab - 01-16-2006 Well AW only restricts territory for anyone hostile to us. So as long as you aren't hostile to us your allowed in. System claims... - Wolfpack98 - 01-16-2006 Okay. I'm split I voted the homeworld option, but 2-5 systems works for me as well. Allows noob factions room to grow in. That's my whole arguement about limiting the number of systems one can control: GROWTH ROOM! As long as everyone's claiming each other's sytems, How are the new factions gonna survive? Answer: They dont. System claims... - Firebird - 01-16-2006 I've liked the idea of factions being able to control systems, it adds another level to the server action. I also like the idea of tying the PC factions to the NPC ones. I don't like the idea of forcing a nonchanging system control (for house factions it works since they're set in their ways and have established borders, but the corsairs for example planned to invade Bretonia and such). Wait a minute...had a thought just now...you can limit the number of systems and Dab can still be power hungry and have his takeover the universe ploy if he wants. Make it so a faction can control say 6 (or whatever), once at the max system limit they can still invade others system but then another system becomes free. Also, make it so only connected systems can be invaded or claimed and in order to maintain a claim they're must be a connection to the home system (unclaimables would be like a free space and simply be ignored). Thus, for AW to indirectly "control" more than the system limit they would need to have non-controlled systems encircled to prevent anyone else from taking it. Lastly, if a system is cut-off or isolated from its home system it would become free. Thoughts or questions? ---------- To deal with wolfpack's concern over new factions, you'd make it so a home system can't be taken (just moved when necessary). New factions would be able to take any free system. Say AW had a system encircled and a new faction wants to start there, they could. Which means the new faction would be able to put a wrench in AW's plans or have a nice protector, depending on what they want to do. ---------- Reading the other thread, there's also a concern that system claiming is ruining some people's peaceful existance. I would suggest that a factions control over a system means they can enforce control (taxation, whatever...) only against faction ships. So for those that want to be left alone in peace use a char not tied to a faction, you want to start trouble fly your faction character into another factions space  The other advantage with a system limit like this is that there would be no real need for maintenance payments every week. I would still have a faction registration fee to avoid factions being suddenly created. Money collected would be used for roleplay event payouts, server testing, etc. ---------- The magic house faction number appears to be 7 (1 home, 4 primary systems, 2 extended). And given house factions should have the largest military and ability to maintain control, think it makes sense that we set the limit there. If several new factions emerge and we run out of room, we can always lower this number or add more outlying systems  Posts Merged System claims... - Sid - 01-18-2006 now fire bird that's a very nice proposal the most reasonble i think i hqave herd and my clan wont be out of the job evey one wins nice one. i relay like it and i think others may also System claims... - xit - 01-18-2006 f2k,Jan 16 2006, 06:56 PM Wrote:I vote none. And why should some players be able to decide, whether or not other players should be restricted to a few select factions to get something called home? ;) There should be room for us all. Both those that want a place of their own to control, and people who just want to peacefully fly where they want, and others for that matter. Personally I took the homeworld option, since I don't want to restrict people. Then again I also hope that the individual factions will respect the freelancers of this server, and leave them alone, although the normal PvP rules should of course apply. System claims... - Dab - 01-18-2006 People listen for once. We never said we were restricting anybody from our territory, only people we are openly hostile to (phantoms, NSP). I have never restricted traders through any system I've owned. Even in the RP event in Rheinland I allowed traders in unconditionally. |
