Operation "Barrera" - Cat - 03-01-2011 ![]() Firewall Status...Online Verify Encryption Keys...[color=#66FFFF]Ok Identification confirmed...Norman O'Connor Recognised Establishing video uplink... Initialise Transmission Subject: [color=#66FFFF]Mission briefing - Operation "Barrera" Agents, we have new assignment for you. I suppose you are all aware that we have recently managed to intercept a smuggling vessel in the Magellan system. The nature of the cargo is not of any importance for you, but the value is. That's why the LSF Directorate ordered to deliver the cargo to the nearest safe location, where the R&D would get the chance to study it. That's why we have decided to form a convoy and deliver the materials safely. The convoy's destination is Willard Research Station in the California system. However, there is one point. There are only two safe passages in the Tahoe cloud: the Minor Passage and the Barrera Passage. Due to the high piracy rate in the Tahoe cloud (especially near the trade lanes) we can't risk bringing the convoy to the Minor Passage, that's why Barrera is the only option. Therefore we would need several fighter-class vessels to act as escort for the convoy. LSF threat analysis group have marked the operation's risk level as "Moderate". Pirate attack is likely, however Rogues or Hackers won't pose much threat to the LSF convoy with heavy escorts. They are unlikely to intercept the transport, however we can not take any risks. That is why I need all available agents for this assignment. Report your availability on this channel. Signal Lost... ![]() The Order as a whole was facing the difficult period. The Core activity was on the increase, the old alliance with the Sirius Coalition ended, so now the Order agents had one more potential threat to deal with. However, the organisation managed to establish a good spying network, getting support from several groups in Sirius. That could be considered one of the few achievements. The Order undercover operatives have been monitoring artifact smuggling activities in Liberty for years, and they have even found something interesting recently - some kind of unusual artifact, which was said to be quite expensive. The operatives tried to buy the artifact, but someone else managed to outbid them. The new plan was to intercept the deliverer's vessel that and acquire the artifact, and everything was going smooth, until the LSF strike team showed up in Magellan and intercepted the smuggler. The Order agents remained unnoticed, but the operation failed. Now lieutenant Brian Scott was tasked to deal with that failure. [color=#FF9900]Planet Toledo, Cape Hope, briefing room. People in the briefing room were gathering. Brian decided to assemble the strike team, that's why he summoned all available operatives to Cape Hope for the mission briefing. He explained in brief what had happened in Magellan, and went on to the mission details. [color=#FFFFFF]"Ok, we don't know much about that artifact. Don't even know it's exact nature. All we know is that the Admiralty considers that thing important enough. That's why you've been called here. The LSF agents are currently moving the cargo to one of their transport vessels, that will soon leave Magellan. They don't have many options, since trying to move such a large shipment without heavy escorts through California would be too risky, we all are aware that the place can be called the capital of Libertonian piracy. I bet the LSF will deliver the cargo to the nearest suitable location. I am only aware of one such location, and it's Willard Research Station. The station is positioned in the Tahoe Ice Cloud, and there are only two passages I am aware of. One of them is on the opposite side from the Magellan jump gate, so I doubt the LSF will use it, since that'd require them to waste more fuel, and the risks of getting attacked are high. No, they'd take the old Barrera Passage. It is mostly unused and that's why it isn't frequented by the raiders. Here's the deal: our intel will inform us when the convoy moves out. By that time we need to have several operatives who would take a convenient position in the Tahoe Cloud. I suggest the abandonned storage depot, it'd be the best spot. Now I just need the volunteers..." ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ OORP part: rules of the event and so on. READ THIS, IT'S IMPORTANT. The event takes place in California (Tahoe Ice Cloud, the Barrera Passage, near the supply depot). The =LSF= convoy (consisting of 1 transport vessel and 4 fighters) gets intercepted by the Order| strike team (consisting of 4 fighters) near the "Storage Depot" (that's the only object remaining from the 3rd vanilla mission, so it's the best way to identify the Barrera Passage now). Rules of engagement. 1) Once the groups meet (near that supply depot), the =LSF= transport stops (unlike the fighters, transport can not engage Order| ships for now, but Order| can't hit the transport yet). 2) To hit the transport Order| will need to disable at least 1 =LSF= vessel. 3) Once 1 =LSF= vessel is destroyed, the Order| ships are free to attack the transport. The transport can now shoot back/thrust/cruise to the destination. The new objective for the Order| is to destroy the transport, tractor some of the cargo. The =LSF='s task is to escort the transport to Willard Research Station. 4) To withdraw safely the Order| would need to take down 2 more =LSF= ships after terminating the transport. Outcome conditions. =LSF= win: If the transport reaches Willard, =LSF= achieve their goal. The cargo is delivered to Willard safely, LSF Research and Development Department people are happy. However, the artifact turned out to be a simple trinket, just like others. So, why was all the risk? Draw: Order| vessels successfully intercept the convoy and destroy the transport, but only few Order| ships survive and have to withdraw. However, they fail to vaporize 2 more =LSF= fighters and therefore have to retreat under fire. The cargo is damaged, but at least the =LSF= didn't get it. Both sides think they've lost something important. Let them think so. Order| win: The Order| successfully terminates the convoy, destroys 2 more =LSF= vessels, so now they don't have to watch their backs constantly on their way home. Although they couldn't get all the cargo, they brought at least some with them. The fate of "important artfact" is questionable: either the Order| get it ("However, the artifact turned out to be a simple trinket, just like others. So, why was all the risk?" still applies), or it is lost ("Both sides think they've lost something important. Let them think so" in that case). Any Order| and =LSF= players can sign up for the event in this thread. Only fighters are allowed (and =LSF= transport, of course). Event time: Saturday, 19.00 GMT+0. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ![]() [color=#66FFFF]Mission status - Operation "Barrera" - involved LSF units [color=#FFFFFF] Johny Leroy (=LSF=Johny-Leroy) [color=#FF0000]CLASSIFIED (=LSF=Sampi) Ashley Sunderland (=LSF=Ashley.Sunderland) [color=#FF0000]CLASSIFIED (=LSF=Beta-1) =LSF.TS=Halifax ![]() [font=Franklin Gothic Medium] Some people were willing to join the strike team. Brian noticed them. "Right, Preston, you're in. Anyone else? We need at least three more volunteers to make it count". Lieutenant looked around and noticed one more volunteer. [color=#FFFFFF]"Ensign Thomas? Good, make us proud. We have our reserves, so don't worry". At that moment Eugene Maersk volunteered. "Commander, you're going there too? Pleased to hear, we'll need someone with field and commanding experience". Brian made some notes: 1) Order|Ens.-J.Preston 2) Order|Ens.Axel.Thomas (may be available for the task) 3) Order|Cdr.Eugene.Maersk Reserve: Clark Gunson or Keith Gunson Of course, the list wasn't complete... something could always change.
