Freelancer and Vista Connection problems - Recoil - 01-18-2008

Hi all,
Need a little help so I can get started into the daunting Discovery RP Universe (looks daunting from where newbie me is sat anyway!). I played Freelancer a while back and reinstalled it recently so I thought I'd give the multiplayer a go. I have installed the mod correctly as the tutorial states and also installed the replacement global server mod. The game brings up all the servers, hundreds of them but when I click on a server it immediately gives an error that it cannot connect, server may be closing down or could be an internet connection. I have turned off Windows Firewall, Avast Antivirus etc but to no avail. Even tried disabbling IPv6 as I heard Freelancer doesn't like it but no joy!
Please help!!!!

Recoil

p.s If there is a hints and tips to getting started etc for the RP server could you point me in the direction of that post, thanks.

I've heard rumors that Avast has the same problems on Vista like McAfee and Norton does, but again they're only rumors. If you have a free version of Avast and don't mind uninstalling it for a couple of minutes, give that a try.

Edit: Also, if you haven't read this yet.

Thanks DBoy. Yes I have read the tutorial and did a clean install etc. Will try uninstalling Avast. Fingers cross I can get on!

Thanks Recoil

edit: Tried that along with a fresh install etc. but to no avail. Wish I never install Vista, got more bugs in it than a rotten apple.
