Stupid screen! - bluntpencil2001 - 01-19-2008 Right, I need advice. My laptop is being a pain in the ass, and has been for the past few months. I think it's getting worse. The problem is that the bottom third of the screen often blacks out or freezes up unless pressure is put upon it. This is sometimes able to be fixed by jamming folded bits of paper into the sides, but it appears to require more pressure now and I don't want to risk bursting it. Any suggestions? Stupid screen! - stewcool - 01-19-2008 Thats sounds seriously bad...I say you get an external hard drive then trasfer all info and get a new one... Stupid screen! - bluntpencil2001 - 01-19-2008 Ah, crap. I might just buy a cheap PC monitor at some point then. Stupid screen! - Horon - 01-19-2008 Sounds like you have a short. I dont think it needs more pressure as much as its bending out the edges of the screen. Stupid screen! - bluntpencil2001 - 01-19-2008 ' Wrote:Sounds like you have a short. I'm desperate for advice...:( Stupid screen! - pchwang - 01-19-2008 blunt, I think that the LCD cells on the screen are dead. Are there random splotches of blackness? Stupid screen! - Horon - 01-19-2008 Weeeell I have a few idea's. Right off the top of my head, might be rather dangerous. Don't really recommend number 1 though. 1) If your good at tearing sh*t apart, you might try removing the casing from the LCD screen and see if there isn't a damaged wire, or something else in there. 2) Put something on the outside edges, like a clamp or something. Something with just enough pressure to de-f**k *p the screen. I have to go now. My External Hard Drive is having a seizure again. Stupid screen! - bluntpencil2001 - 01-19-2008 I'll try a clamp of sorts, like a G-clamp from a woodshop or something. I think elgatodiablo is probably right. Right now it is all black. Stupid screen! - Epholl - 01-19-2008 We had a damaged LCD here recently. It was hit by high voltage, I think during a storm or what... Luckily, only the power source had some problems (the only part you can really repair yourself). 2 transistors were damaged, causing short circuit and extreme heating on one half of the light tubes(the monitor was shining white even if turned off..). We had to get new ones... Then a signal cable from the logical board to the LCD had to be fixed, because the screen had very strange colors, after some pressure on the connector the LCD is ok now, but I am afraid it is not your problem, blunt.:( A photo would belp a lot. |
