Don't get caught , aka don't blindly go trough the lanes.
Make connections to pirate groups you wish to work for.
Profit will come.
Nobody does it cause people are lazy and IND can smuggle in 5k ships.
Other than that, go for it.

Well, why not a new faction entirely, the CBF (yeh yeh, inactive for now, there is a reaon) has a department dedicated to smuggling. Our only active smuggler (:D) makes a lot of profit and has lots of fun, so I say, why the hell not? 8-|

There have been smuggling factions. Some of them lasted for a while. There was even one entirely dedicated to the slave trade.
Of course, as Prim already mentioned, we also have the IND.

Lots of unlawful player factions that would suit you Morpheus:)Just take a look at the Factions thread and you'll find one that suits you. Many pirate/criminal player organisations smuggle things through house space all the time.
In terms of smuggling itself well, you're innocent until proven guilty;)Just don't try it in Liberty Space otherwise I'll have to arrest you:P
