The idea of advancing, or progressing on the server is an interesting one, and I'm not entirely sure how to measure it. So without repeating the thread from which the quote is lifted, I'd like to know what you would regard as progression, or advancing, in discovery terms. Something sparked my interest - tansytansey - 03-20-2011 Maybe an update that didn't take 2 years to complete would be a start... Something sparked my interest - Implosion - 03-20-2011 For some people it's earning couple a billion credits and making a collection of Battleships. For others is...dunno...having a nice long story behind any and all of their characters. Others prefer to start a faction and eventually make it one of the most active and respected groups on the server. And there are people who don't care about all that and just play for fun. Something sparked my interest - Pancakes - 03-20-2011 I think that many mini-updates each 2 months or so would be nice will the the "discovery" part back, since I am sure all of the the community know by heart each and every hell-whole that exist in the correct mod. Moreover, I think that officail factions should have their own rep, and by that the can still lead the faction while having the ability to make them being neutral/friednly/hostile to other faction without dragging all of the faction to it. This is somethign similar to Eve's corps. Something sparked my interest - Enojado - 03-20-2011 More and smaller updates would be lovely. Something sparked my interest - Rommie - 03-20-2011 To me, progression is the stuff that Cannon does with FLHook. Like splitting the server in two. Something sparked my interest - AshHill07 - 03-20-2011 Just have something introduced that nobody expected. I would say try to trigger off a chain of events like the single player game did but I think that would be rather difficult in a multiplayer enviroment. Something sparked my interest - Zelot - 03-20-2011 For me it's about the characters I play developing, which of course requires change in the world around them. That changes takes many different paths. I think about my own experience with the AFA when I think about this question. When I started playing the FA, I was basically the only player who played it, and basically the only player who had ever played it on the server. It was an open frontier, I was able to shape the NPC factions rp, as I shaped Ze'ev Barak's personal rp, and the rp of the AFA. This was long ago, and today, there arent really any factions that you can jump into and really define the identity of the faction, there are people who play almost every faction, and there is significant amounts of lore and player driven rp that is going on that has to be taken into consideration. I think more current examples of progression are the developments between the Order and the Corsairs, the Bretonian relationship with the Outcasts, and the developments between Kusari and Liberty. I think a good way to judge development is whether other players jump on board with it. Developments like that can come from small groups or individuals, or from large factions or groups of factions. |
