Minor magic and/or pyro/tele/cryokinesis? - Kontrazec (Somni) - 03-20-2011 As the title says, are these things acceptable while roleplaying a character? They would have minor effect on the game itself, since it's not "olol i chrush ur ship with my mind lol u dead lol" kind of stuff, but more like, enough to affect fist-sized objects, and unable to harm another being. Minor magic and/or pyro/tele/cryokinesis? - aerelm - 03-20-2011 We already have 12yo catgirl admirals, so why not..? The thing is, when doing a non-canon RP, always keep one thing in mind: Try your best to RP it out within freelancer limits and canon, but don't go mad if someone ignores your RP like your char's crazy or something, cause just like how no one can force you not to use a nonstandard, you can't force anyone to play along with your nonstandard RP either. Minor magic and/or pyro/tele/cryokinesis? - Kontrazec (Somni) - 03-20-2011 Thanks aerelm. I was planning to use a small number of related things, mainly cryokinesis and telekinesis. Magic, I was overdoing it. The whole idea is rather simple, it would just make the RP more interesting, and not "O_o what the hell is this". Anyone else's opinions are still welcome. Minor magic and/or pyro/tele/cryokinesis? - jxie93 - 03-20-2011 Remember - this is science fiction, not fantasy. Everything your character do and possess must be explained in a plausible scientific fashion. Supernatural powers and anthropomorphics are pushing the limits, don't overdo it and don't ever force it upon others. Edit: There're other ways of making your character interesting without making him/her into superman. The pinacle of roleplaying is creating an extraordinary role out of a seemingly ordinary character. Only the unimaginative use far fetched addtions to enhance their featureless and stereotipical characters. Minor magic and/or pyro/tele/cryokinesis? - Akura - 03-20-2011 No. Not really. The Nomads have it because they're a more advanced race, and there's a nice bit of FL-Psuedo-science behind it. It's really just their method of communication and tools for surviving and prospering in space. Humans are a little too simple to pull something like that off believably, you'd be toying with the 'force' which is more in the science fantasy genre. The best thing to remember is weaknesses, if your character is boosted in one area, an equally rated 'nerf' of sorts to make them believable is nice. Like a mental illness or disability not crazy, but OCD, mute, blind etc. Minor magic and/or pyro/tele/cryokinesis? - Ivan - 03-20-2011 Magic is fine as long as people you're using it on are fine with it. -> Don't use it to powergame/metagame, otherwise it's np. Minor magic and/or pyro/tele/cryokinesis? - TheJarl - 03-20-2011 I myself am currently busy with an RP story involving some slightly supernatural stuff. But I keep in mind that others do not have to believe my character and it actually only really influences my own character, not that of others. Minor magic and/or pyro/tele/cryokinesis? - Zukeenee - 03-20-2011 I'd rather not see anything like this at all. Freelancer doesn't have "magic". Super-powered characters just don't belong here. I mean, some people try to pass it off as the result of some top-secret Order experiment or something, but that's still pretty ridiculous. So no. I wouldn't easily "accept" it. But I can't stop you from trying it. Minor magic and/or pyro/tele/cryokinesis? - Jeremy Hunter - 03-20-2011 I have Jeremy able to use telekenisis, but I have him get headaches according to an objects mass. Lifting a sword, very mild discomfort. Lifting a 20 year old woman? Expect some pain. I add that drawback so Jeremy doesnt seem all powerful. He is unique, but he'd probably faint with pain as he tries to crush a Nepththys. He'd have the cockpit crushed, then out like a light. He diverted a rockslide'd (albiet a not huge one) and was unconcious for days. Just have acceptable drawbacks. Minor magic and/or pyro/tele/cryokinesis? - dodike - 03-20-2011 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_super...ties_in_fiction I'm having hard time to decide which abilities should I pick for my characters. Somebody help, please. |
