Pirates - RParade - 01-23-2008 What is "okay" for pirates to fly..? Obviously, it's not okay for an Outcast to fly a Corsair Titan, but how about.. Outcasts flying Lanehacker Gunships? Outcasts flying Blood Dragon VHFs? Outcasts flying Slipstreams? And then there's always the case of a generic Pirate ID. Do these pirates have free reign to fly whatever since they aren't directly linked to any of the actual factions? Pirates - Joe012 - 01-23-2008 Not gonna touch that one with a ten foot pole.... Pirates - Jinx - 01-23-2008 hardcore: only faction ships - nothing else, not even ally stuff other than that: own and allied stuff - but rather fighters, no caps - caps upon consent ( playerconsent ) by the appropriate faction - and only if it makes sense. no civilian, cause they are lawful; freeport stuff only regarding to equipment. civilian only if the faction has no own designs. generic pirate should just stick to one factions layout : ship/weapons but at that point, personal roleplay starts .... Pirates - mjolnir - 01-23-2008 You already got good answer from Jinx... so just about the ship you wrote: Outcasts flying Lanehacker Gunships? ......... ok for now.. since they don't have own GB Outcasts flying Blood Dragon VHFs? ........... not ok .. I would call that ooRP... even the infocard says that blood dragons guard the design even from closest allies Outcasts flying Slipstreams?........... a bit unsure... I see Slipstream as a Lane Hackers ship...die-hard Outcast would use the Scimitair generic Pirate ID... should simply be removed in my opinion (or limited to max. bombers)....otherwise I would say all depends on what tag you have on that one Pirates - Zapp - 01-23-2008 Quote:Outcasts flying Blood Dragon VHFs? ........... not ok .. I would call that ooRPMy Outcast flew a BD HF (Yes, there is no BD VHF, on the infocard it says HF) up until about yesterday, but that's only because the [BLS] RP says that we control the cardamine market in most of Kusari. I always saw it as appropriate that I would fly a BD HF because of that... but yesterday, I switched back to a Sabre, with a "pure" Outcast weapon setup. And yeah, Outcasts can use (to my knowledge) Lane Hacker, Rogue, and Blood Dragon gunboats/gunships. Really, it all depends on how strict your definition of RP is. I wouldn't touch a Raven's Talon with a ten foot pole, but I see other pirate people flying it all the time. Pirates - mjolnir - 01-23-2008 except that Blood Dragons don't use cardi Zapp Pirates - Stoat - 01-23-2008 Everyone has a different opinion on what's acceptable and what isn't. Hillbilly has a generic pirate ID as he doesn't fit anywhere else. I've decided that everytime he gets shot down I'll sell the ship, buy the cheapest LF I can, then fly off to some base and try to RP buying a new ship/weapons off of them. I guess it really comes down to your own RP. As long as you're confident you've got a solid story behind it, and you don't get shot down in flames by the community, pretty much anything can be done. Edit: @mjolnir. It's the GC isn't it? Pirates - Jinx - 01-23-2008 its not too hard - when you keep in mind that "inChar" your character will consider their faciton ships as the best choice. its not only about the strength of the armor, the agility and the powerplant. but for a roleplayed char, there are more aspects about a ship. one that is ignored ingame, but one of the most important ones is the maintainence of ships. a gaian will most probably fly a startracker/eagle line, not only cause its the ships they can actually attain, but cause their technicians know how to maintain those. they have spareparts for those ships and can make sure that a damaged fighter can be repaired. if a gaian was flying a zoner kadesh light fighter - the gaian technicians would be in trouble to repair that ship. they don t have the parts or the knowledge for it. ( thats not relfected in the game though ) if a faction has their only designs ( outcasts is a problem there, cause the borderworld ships are not really their design, or is it? ) they consider that superior, not only for the above reasons, cause they represent more than just a ship. a corsair flying a titan is proud to fly one of their greatest achievements in shiptechnology. ships in such societies might even be handed down from generation to generation, from father to son / daughter. - so such a pilot wouldn t even fly another ship, even if the new one was clearly superior. a generic pirate is a problem, cause he has no home, no real faction, in terms of roleplay - he has nothing to be proud of as a legacy / history of the faction. he ll choose what works best for its purpose, but won t have such a tight relationship to the technology that a pure faction player / char has. Pirates - Zapp - 01-23-2008 @mjolnir - Read the last post of my Carina RP, explains how I got it... was a means to get back to Malta. Pirates - chopper - 01-23-2008 Zapp, i am glad you decided that way. If it was means to get back to Malta, it's ok, but it's temporary. It's not about wining or loosing, it's not about stats and agility, it is simply about sense of RP. I would comment a BAF flying Avenger just the same as i do criticize OC flying Blood Dragon HF. And yes, it is HF officially, but it is actually a VHF. Maybe something in between. I would say, that it is a ship that combines the best aspects of HF and VHF. Armor - VHF Guns - VHF Agility - HF Size - HF Always happy to see more Sabres across the screen. |
