easy poll:

this is just about to see what the community thinks about expanding the number of ships - in case we really still need more.

what it is NOT about is WHO is to get such a ship then. its just a general research about shipclasses in general .... if a specific shipclass is underrepresented or overrepresented.


myself - i am mostly interested to see if discovery actually really still needs ship models at all. ( i left bases mostly out, cause i am sure that disco can still need plenty of good base models ... no question there )


and yes - each account can only pick ONE shipclass - its about what we really need.


it d be nice if those that pick a ship would write a brief justification why they think its still needed.

btw: i picked strategic bombers, cause i think that the concept was a full success. bombers that are highly successful in good teams and shine at what they are build for at a significant rate. - but vulnerable enough to discourage random wantan behaviour of single ppl.

Hammerhead is a Very Heavy fighter with Heavy fighter stats...

I would like to see some nice Freighters, Light bombers, Light Fighters.

Ad least some more civilian/generic ships.
Voted:: Light fighters, since I'm a LF whore, and the Ki is the only proper civilian LF imo.

Edit: Also not all ships need to be eye candy
Remember that Earth has ugly cars too, however some can drive real good.

in my opinion, disco needs to get more unique bases,

ships need to be developed, not trying to get every john doe a ship he likes.

I've said this to a few others.

When it comes to choices, why not bring back some of the better and working ships from the previous versions thus adding more variation to our choices that are available to us all.

Some may have to have a few tweaks to them, but I think in overall the end result may be a more expanded set of choices available to the player on what he/she would want to fly, thus adding in total a more open choice for that person to create new storylines and RP for them.

Some ships may be restricted sue to such as being Overpowered, imported, etc etc. But the end result would be a more expanded universe of diversity, which I think would be benefitcial to all.

Course that's my thought.

Umm, I voted for the light gunships. To be honest, while it's obvious that subclasses are much harder to balance, I adore them much more for some reason. They also require flying techniques different from the more common classes, that way making the whole process of using them interesting.

We must reduce... reduce the usage of the same Eagles and Sabres all around the Sirius. More specific ships for specific factions - even if they will be pretty similiar to the aforesaid Eagles and Sabres in design and stats - will be nice as well. But, eh, it's offtopic.

Light gunships for the unique experience.

@SMI: which old ships do you have in mind there?

in general - keeping old designs is not a particularly bad thing.. an entire ship takes up roughly 1mb (a little more with capships due to their more complex skinning - but rarely more than 3mb) - disco modsize still is very small - and the average person can download even 1gb within a reasonable time.

light gunships - well... we haven t got many of them... the extreme being the BHG bottlenose ... are not too hard to balance.. i think we can agree that, at least at the moment, it is well balanced. - we shall see how it ll turn out when we introduce "turret steering" ( it might well turn out to become THE bombers nightmare - unhittable and deadly )


in general:

if you pick "special ships" - a little concept idea would be nice ( like miner, long range sensor, lane scanner, docking blocker etc. )

And yes I do want more ships.
What I would love to see is that military stuff would have say, a Light, heavy, strategic bomber to be able to do more 'special' missions with specific ships made for the job.

Well Jinx that the million dollar question..Kinda like when 4.86 is coming out.

I was not around when 4.84 was open, or 4.83. So I basically have to take things from old pics and the words of others on the ships which could be added back. And to be honest, I know of very few.

Maybe a list of ships that were in the previous mods would help?

Maybe the advice of others?

I don't honestly know.

Special ships?
Specialised transport/minelayer plz.
Maybe an armored gunboat/transport? I'd like to see something cruiser-sized, with large cargo, small clusters of transport weapons, cruiser core and the turning of a battleship. Makes an interesting mix.
