4.86 ship models - Alex. - 04-10-2011 There's a few ship renders on the wiki that are not in-game currently: I haven't come across any more of these, so if you find any more, please tell.:) Me and Cshake haven't been able to reach an agreement on how they should be handled, so can you fill out the poll please? 4.86 ship models - Jeremy Hunter - 04-10-2011 Clearly specify I say. /2cents 4.86 ship models - Charo - 04-10-2011 Put both .85 and .86 models on the page. kthxbai 4.86 ship models - VoluptaBox - 04-10-2011 Couldn't care less:D 4.86 ship models - cshake - 04-11-2011 The wiki is a resource that people can go to and see what is currently on the 24/7 server. That is what we've been using it as since I started working on it quite a while ago. We've already had discussions about letting there be faction pages and similar for other servers that run the mod, and it always came out with a clear "No, when in doubt use what is on the GC server". I see this as similar - having the ship pages as they are, with a few of them having new models, is deliberately showing things that are not currently a part of the game, and as such I don't see how they should be allowed. Doing the "compromise" of showing more than one model in the ship infobox/template is just stupid, makes the page look dumb, and opens a can of worms because then you'll have 27 pictures of all models that were used for the ship at any point since the mod started. And for that reason, even if that poll option wins it's not gonna happen unless Blodo is for it, since he and I are the people who can lock pages on the wiki (and Igiss doesn't meddle in the day to day affairs of it). So what I'm proposing here is to revert the image in the infobox to the current model that you see in the game, leave the infobox that way, and if someone really wants to add "future models" to the page, put it in a different section at the bottom of the page that clearly says "this is what the ship will look like in 2015, or whenever 4.86 comes out, which might be even later". When the mod finally does come out (and assuming I haven't died of old age or gotten sick of this game), I'll render all the new models with the same lighting and at the same angles as the existing pictures and replace them. But for now, "fan art" (which is essentially what the 'prerelease' images are), does not belong in the template and should be uploaded with new file names instead of overwriting the official pictures. 4.86 ship models - Alex. - 04-11-2011 So if you don't get your way, you're going to stop anyone from being able to do anything to the pages? Great, I just gained loads more faith in you as a sysop. 4.86 ship models - cshake - 04-11-2011 ' Wrote:So if you don't get your way, you're going to stop anyone from being able to do anything to the pages? Great, I just gained loads more faith in you as a sysop. No, I'm just saying that the template itself isn't gonna change. It's up to the players voting here as to what image goes in it. Ship infoboxes are supposed to look the same across all the pages, that's the point. And not all ships will have different images for the next version. So having some with 2 pictures and some with only 1 is defeating the point of having a uniform template. 4.86 ship models - Canadianguy - 04-11-2011 I agree with Chris on that one, while I have no problems keeping these files for now on the wiki, I think that they should not be added to their respective pages right now, except maybe like Chris suggested, as a link at the bottom of the page. The wiki is for the current edition of the mod, having the the render from 4.86 as the main picture would be IMHO, a bad thing to do, since someone would go on the wiki, see a model that does not exist in the current release, and then complaint that wiki is inaccurate. Even if we say that pic is from 4.86, and that its not yet released, I am pretty sure some people who do not know what these ships look like would like to see what it looks like in the current version of the mod. Adding a second picture in the template is IMHO, not a good idea, as there would simply be too much stuff in the template. 4.86 ship models - Pancakes - 04-11-2011 Honestly, these only pictures, moreover of the way your stuff are going to look like soon (hopefully soon) I think leave it as it is, but yes, state it's photo of the model of 4.86 4.86 ship models - Enojado - 04-11-2011 ' Wrote:Cshake and I haven't been able ...
