Tired of the confusion! - Negatar - 04-15-2011

I am so very tired of flying around and having everyone stop me citing rules laws, illegal commodities, illegal ship usage in their systems, etc!

Most players consult the WIKI (because its all in one spot) and we go from there. Today I found out super alloy is illegal to be sold in Rhainland. Apparently illegal only for junkers to sell it. How would i have known this? The WIKI says its legal!

My ship apparently is the wrong ship - I use a pirate transport - what am I suppossed to use as a junker trader? Its the largest ship allowed according to the junker ID (specs found in wiki) and the ship is sold in the junker guard system - yet its wrong for me to fly?
I always consult the mighty matrix regarding tech use (its all in one place) and im told that doesnt apply in Rheinland? How the heck am I to know this???

I am accosted by some Bretonian customes guy who cites all the laws to me as well. Wants ten million from me for cargo worth 400k? Yes - that makes ZERO sense!!

The guys in Rheinland always cite their laws and cite different charges.

SO - I HAVE COMPLAINED AND HERE IS MY SOLUTION - PURCHASEABLE LICENSES THAT CLEARLY STATE LEGAL/ILLEGAL CRUD FOR EACH HOUSE.

Legal/illegal commodities/weapons/ships/etc etc. And list it ALL DOWN so these wanna be freelancers (acting as cops/military) and noobies can get it right and quit making stuff up.

THEN - as a junker who is trying to be LAWFUL - I can comply without getting harassed at every jump gate and have all of his darn time WASTED!!!

PIRATES move way faster than these LAWFUL rule citing players!! Pirates are also WAY More consistent!!

SO is this doable - the heads of each faction make up the verbage on a license and we take it from there and make it purchaseable for those other non corporate groups to trade and be left in peace and allowed to not break any rules!! I am trying SO DARN HARD not to smuggle/pirate/etc - and I am harassed WAY Too often!!

I love that when you start the game you get those commodities that spell the rules out for noobies - I know this can be done again with new info - people make new commodities all the darn time and I read about them on these forums. Lets get the rules out to where we can all see them - on licenses and not held on some database that we cant see in game - a commodity where the rules are spelled out so there is no confusion - heck with buying the commodities have it also listed there (illegal/legal for these groups - etc etc and legal/illegal in these houses/factions etc) lets get FULL disclosure IN GAME!!! :rtfm:

Fly a Salvager? You only lose what, 50 cargo space? (Unless I'm confusing the PTrans an the Big Dragon's cargo hold size), it's perfectly legal anywhere you go, and gets the scrap bonus.

Also, most people (in-RP) find Junkers to be theiving, mischevious, untrustworthy, backstabbing, self-indulgent, hypocritical, money-grubbing bastards.

Just saying.

Now that I think of it - if things were made clearer then lawfuls would have less to do then hope and wait for someone that hasnt read their particular entries in the forums. SAD - so very sad. :$

Pirate Transport = 28 million. Salvager = 107 million for less cargo space. I'd recommend against criticizing houses that don't update the wiki, as it might get you banned for trolling.

The house militaries and police are essentially lawful pirates ingame. Doesn't matter what the house laws, wiki, rumours or purchased liscenses state, if said player wishes to be a dick, he currently can tax you and shoot you down for reasons he pulls out his arse. As a Junker, your best bet is to give lawfuls the finger by not using lanes and gates (yes, even when hauling perfectly legitimate cargo)

I like your idea of having purchasable licences ingame, as it takes away some of the requirements of forumlancer. However, factions that could hand out such items (RFP, KSP, BPA) aren't exactly active enough to reliably police and dole out these shipping contracts.

I appreciate you seconding my motion for the acual commodity license - I wish more would feel the same way - it could even be like the barge thing - you request it and buy it (even in the darn forums) and then an admin or someone places it in your ship. I just want and feel something should be there to see/cite/etc - IN GAME.

And thus the dichotomy that is Discovery is...discovered.

Also, less caps. Makes you appear RUS))))

BOSS - it would be posted in game on the commodity that says which factions can use the particular ship one is about to buy - so I dont have to find it somehere in the forums (since the tech chart is wrong apparently).

This is only possible if factions have access to changing small parts of ingame content as and when they see fit to do so (perhaps, for an update to the wording to clarify one of these licences and so on). As far I know, the structure for this is already in place (discovery automatic updates), but I think a lot of people would take issue with all the licences that would be created. Remember, the amount of licences in RL is mindboggling, and while FL is very simplified, I can still think of 20 or so that houses would like to have. Each.

If you impose a limit of ten licences per house, and that's a very draconian limit, including Outcasts and Corsairs, that's 70 commodity slots, and that adds quite a bit of bulk.

An introduction of these licences without regulation will cause a huge explosion of commodity numbers. With tight regulation, they will cause many things to become plain illegal, or the use of the forum in an inefficient way as it's used now, for exceptions and so on.

A good idea, if you can convince the developers that it's good enough to warrant a large increase in commodities. If you're willing to take this idea that far, point out that there are many many commodity entries for mission stuff (escape pod, bio weapons, secret documents etc) that already take up space that barely anyone sees and that are, in the end, quite pointless as you don't keep them.
