Mining Question - huadianz - 04-21-2011

I have looked on the wiki at the mining guide, which is reasonably outdated and found that when I go in game and start shooting rocks in the Colorado system, or any of the other 3 fields in Pennsylvania, I get nothing. Helium gets depleted incredibly quickly, so I am getting sick of that field. My question is, does anyone know which fields are actually active in Discovery? Also, which fields are safe for a poor guy in a Rhino to mine?

The wiki is pretty much up-to-date in the two places it lists good mining spots:
Mineable Commodities
Mining Guide - Mining Areas

You probably just didn't see the part in red text that says:
Quote:These fields may not produce bonuses on Discovery Freelancer RP 24/7

The helium field not working is a bug. The other fields elsewhere in Liberty not producing anything is intended.

So the silver fields in Pennsylvania is working? From what is on the mining guide, it is disabled, but in the commodities, it is enabled...

Also, should I get out of an Idp. Miner ID? Even though it only has a 1.4x bonus, I don't have to worry about the Bretonia/Kusari war as much, so I can mine in Stokes, meaning easy hauling without hiring a hauler and less pirate risk to Kensington. I know it is very non-RP, but this is my money maker character only...

Silver fields also have bug, believe me

The only field that you're supposed to be able to mine at a good rate in in Liberty is Helium in Penn.

Honestly, if you want a "money-maker" character, make a trader. You'll make at least as much trading as you will mining solo, and with less risk and frustration.

Ok, I play at off-hours usually so no pirates are on anyways, might as well do that. Thanks anyways =)

The rich fields are in: Tau 23 (Niobium, Beryllium), Dublin (Gold), Omega 7 (Copper, Cobalt, Silver), Omega 11 (Diamonds) and Cambridge (Beryllium)

Scrapfield in Liberty being active is odd, considering Sugarland is reported to have a buying price of 2400 for that. It'll need to be looked into.
