House Police and Capital Ships - Daniel_Feenix - 02-03-2008 In the current version of the mod Police ID holders are able to fly cruisers and battleships; in my opinion, they should only be allowed to fly gunboats and lower as you don't see police driving tanks in real life. I have made this topic to see what the community thinks, and if the general consensus is that they shouldn't be flying cruisers and battleships, I hope that the IDs will be changed in the next version of the mod. House Police and Capital Ships - Juan_Arquero - 02-03-2008 I agree. It's unanimous, so you can close the poll now.:rtfm: House Police and Capital Ships - Zelot - 02-03-2008 I'm going to say no. In todays world I have seen all sorts of Police with heavier than normal vehicals. We have all seen the shots of police with the mini tank/battering ram. Many swat teams in the US use APC's. Border police all over the world also use heavier vehicles. Police in the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia use many military grade weapons, aircraft, and vehicles. I think if any the restriction should allow Cruisers and disallow Battleships. I think that would accually be the perfect medium. House Police and Capital Ships - RickJames - 02-03-2008 I voted no. The police have to deal with all sorts of criminals, terrorists, and pirates. And they all use Cruisers, Battlecrusiers, and Battleships. So..yeah. If the police ID were to change we would have to redo the whole faction system and I do not think thats a good idea or the best thing for admins and developers to be working on..changing the whole faction system and all. The Navy folks are really around to defend the House from other Houses..for the most part. They also secure the borders of the houses so also fight all sorts of criminals, terrorists, and pirates. But House Police also need to be able to deal with the unlawfuls...and as long as they have tons of capships the police need them to. If you limited the police to GB's or less then they would only be able to deal with about 50% of the problems they encounter. Or they would ALL be in GB's and we would not see any Police in fighters anymore since they would need swarms of GB's to take care of all the unlawful cruisers and BS's that are flying all over. This is also my opinion of the various House Security factions. Not saying this is a good thing or the way things should be. However, it is the reality of the situation given how many unlawful capships are in play at the moment. Liberty was invaded just a few days ago by a large force of unlawful GB's, Cruiser's, and a BS. It took about an hour to find enough lawful Liberty or allied folks to get on in order to remove them. They were all hanging at Manhattan for about 30 minutes. And today we had a Corsair Cruiser in NY. I wish the police only needed GB's or less. But it would be very unbalanced at the moment with all the unlawful capships in play. Least..thats my opinion of it from being in the LSF. House Police and Capital Ships - Panzer - 02-03-2008 I'd treat police as coast guard - they have roughly the same goals and stuff from the military. However - they don't use captal-sized ships (in rl), only some corvettes, sometimes destroyers. In here - it would be the equivalent of gunboats. House Police and Capital Ships - RickJames - 02-03-2008 ' Wrote:That's why Police ID holders should still be able to fly gunboats. No they are not. However, the current political situation and ability to govern and enforce the law in Freelancer is even worse than it currently is in the Middle-East. It is like the Wild West or even more accurate; the Carribean in the 1600's. You do not see people in fighter jets flying around today because they have to in order to protect themselves. Yet, just about anyone in the Freelancer world can buy a state of the art fighter and load it up with insanely powerful weapons..powerful enought to destroy traders and civilian transportation craft. The Freelancer world is much more unlawful and chaotic then the present day. Without instantaneous communication and the ability to go any were in one day. Sirus is vastly unexplored..even in the main house systems like NY and NB there are vast area's outside the tradelanes that are not easily gotten to and can not be patrolled on a regular basis. The Coast Guard has to deal with the occasional pirate in a converted cigaretboat or cargo ship. The Coast Guard does not deal with pirates in Modern Cruisers and Battleships with state of the art weapons and crews of ten's of thousands. As I said, if we limited Police to GB's or less we would have to limit most of the unlawful factions to GB's or less. Which I think would be a bad idea. Way to much work has gone into their capships and rp. I think Police are fine as they are at the moment. House Police and Capital Ships - Qunitinius~Verginix - 02-03-2008 Yes, the Police should get GB's and lower. In my opinion: Job of Military - Attack/Defend from other houses, Patrol Borders, Assist the Police with Repelling Pirates Attacking Smuglers. Job of Police - Scanning Passer-bys, Hunting Pirates (reason Military doesn't do it is because most pirates are petty), Doing police work. The police don't need big ships. Their jobs don;t require them. HOWEVER, I personally think that Military should not be allowed to make people halt and scan for Cargo, that should be the POLICE"S job. If you think about it, would the Military do jobs like that? Sure they might be around for that kinda job, but only as support in-case situations get out of hand. Because irght now, people chose the Military ID's over the Police ones because there is no Inncentive to chose the police, cause Military has everything Better. Verg House Police and Capital Ships - Jinx - 02-03-2008 voted "yes" cause if people have a police ID and use a capship that is allowed with the current rules, they get yelled at. so to safe them the embarrassment and waste of money, the ID should only allow up to ... actually - only fighters - if its about me. if there is tougher stuff to fight - the police can / and will call in the military anyway. so whats the need of anything bigger than a fighter. but it very much depends on what we think the role of the police is about. - if they are just common cops reporting traffic crimes and asking smugglers to stop, a fighter is more than enough. - if they are also investigating and going for the bigger fish - like barricading known lawbreakers spots ( rochester, buffalo ) i can think of them having gunboats. - if they are the main defense of systems, while the military is really ONLY used for official wars, then they can also fly capital ships. all those three options aren t ooRP, but it depends on how the roles are considered. right now - most of the law enforcement is done by the military in all but bretonia house. bretonia has a much better relationship between their military and police, kusari has no police - same as rheinland. liberty police and LSF and Navy dont work perfectly togethter - which is good, cause the police isn t really state-owned but private. |
