I am just wondering. I have been using a lot of missiles lately and am wondering what people think about this.

It's possible to turn off the detonation while still keeping the (one would hope) main functionality.

It's quite balanced.

Without server lags MCD+mines would be OP, but now they are okay.

That would make missiles far too strong. And this is coming from an old sunny user. CD detonations are necessary to balanced gameplay, otherwise nothing can counter missiles and torps.

They are fine.

We had Nukes + CD's in 4.84 with vanilla ships blowing up from single nuke, and it was still balanced.
Simply because people were more careful, and watched their step.

Some people use Nukes+CD very well.
Some people use CD's to counter missiles. Well, guess what, some people use full missile loadouts, and something needs to counter that.

Countermeasures counter missiles. Turning counters missiles. Lag counters missiles. Not running into mines counters mines. Missiles are very underused.

Having yet another counter is unnecessary. Cruise disruptors are supposed to counter cruise engines, not make it impossible for your opponent to use mines without blowing themselves up.

Sure. Make one single mistake against a full missile sabre or a full missile titan and you are dead. If it puts a paralyzer with other missiles, damage goes trough shield. Means you are dead instantly, from full shield up to a wreck.
You can even die if you do everything right, just by a lucky shot.
Want to know what's balance? The ability to blow those missiles to his face, if you do it right.
You can still CD missiles to your own face, if you do it wrong.

Having the ability to blow those missiles up in his face doesn't change the fact that if you make "one single mistake" against a one-trick pony like that that you're dead.

It also doesn't change the fact that missiles are almost not used at all even without the CD thing, because so many other things make them useless.

If we're worried about a ship equipping nothing but missiles and being overpowered, there are better fixes for that than making missiles more dangerous to the person firing them than to the person being fired upon. Like, for example, only allowing one missile launcher of each type to be mounted. There, problem solved.
