Transports - Matsuda-Shingen - 02-14-2008 So i'm planning to buy a better Transport with a bigger cargo hold but what also crossed my mind was is it better to have a Transport with a bigger cargo hold and little defending capabilities, or a transport with a slightly smaller cargo hold but with more firepower. I found it can be a bit of a nightmare with some transports if your fending off The Wild. I know most of you would immediatley think Adv Train but is it really the one to go for? I was thinking of other options such as The whale or the Container transport. I would like to hear some of your opinions on this. `Shingen Transports - Etaphreven - 02-14-2008 The Whale is quite agile and performs well in asteroid fields and such. But it only has one turret.. Transports - Jinx - 02-14-2008 personally - i d go for the cargohold. ( unless you do rim worlds travels - then you should look for something agile, too ) defense works .... against a fighter maybe. but no matter how many guns you have, - you won t survive a good gunboat or bomber - i believe. - not to mention that a trader is usually rather the sort of person that is not a marine or green baret. so - in my opinion - a transport is not really "fending off" anything - but rather trying to either not get into trouble in the first place or if he does - run from it. other than that - liners and cotainertransports are awesome defense platforms with enough firepower to scare smaller pirates off - but not the professional teamplayer or the warship. Transports - marauder - 02-14-2008 Try the turanic raiders freighter or the kith one, not a massive cargoholds but more then enough firepower to blow most NPC pirates outta the sky and to make player pirates reconsider if they're not in a bomber or bigger. Transports - Dusty Lens - 02-14-2008 I'm a fan of the Whale, it's moves like a dream in light of the cargo that it hauls... But it's not worth a fiddler's darn if you find yourself in a tight spot. The Container Transport, however, with its large array of shooting guns can do a pretty solid job of fending off the uglies, but at a reduced cargo capacity. This is all me personally, but I would strongly suggest the Whale. It's tough enough that you can limp away from most foul beasties without too much of a worry with a bit of luck and, when confronted by a half dozen Wilde, you'll find the Container Transports 12 level 4 turrets really aren't as scary as you might hope they are. The Advanced Train, eh, not my cup of tea personally. Transports - Matsuda-Shingen - 02-14-2008 ' Wrote:so - in my opinion - a transport is not really "fending off" anything - but rather trying to either not get into trouble in the first place or if he does - run from it. When i said fend off i meant msotly from player ships such as UOG in Dublin and yes the odd gunboat here and there. So i figured i'd need some descent firepower if their trigger happy with cruise distrupters. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And everyone seems to be flying Adv Trains these days and I thought i could change that a bit. Transports - me_b_kevin - 02-14-2008 in my opinion i think you should try the container transport. i have trouble smiting those things....BUT i'm usually alone. still, they have plenty of bang with a decent cargo hold Transports - Dieter Schprokets - 02-14-2008 I switched from container transport to Whale recently, and am very glad i did. Transports - Matsuda-Shingen - 02-14-2008 Why? As Eta said it's only got one turret. Transports - Dieter Schprokets - 02-14-2008 Cuz I only ever had one successful fight in the CT. And the cargo capacity got nerfed. And Whale rockflies awesome! |
