Question about Miner ID - AcesHigh - 07-03-2011

I know you are supposed to match your ID and IFF while mining, but I was curious, for the Independent Miner ID and its 1.4x bonus, you don't need an IFF match for what you're mining correct? I planned on making a Freelancer IFF/Miner ID that would travel all over, and I want to make sure I still get that bonus in whatever field I end up in

Bonus is set by ID, not IFF, but other IDs must have their faction IFF as they belong to that faction.

The "Miner ID" will work with any IFF, including Freelancer. It's specifically designed for what you intend to do. Be aware that the mining factions owning the fields you sneak into might drive you out by force, and that the Miner ID bans you from landing on most mining faction stations.

In short, yes. It will work.

That, watch for Dauman and Kruger miners, they happen to be very... aggressive...

Keep in mind also that while the difference between 1.4x and 3x looks small on paper, that's the difference between spending ~15min to fill your Hegemon (as anyone else) and spending ~30-40 minutes to fill your Hegemon (as an independent miner). If you want to make money from mining, you should take one of the mining faction IDs.

It's also good to keep in mind that Freelancers have the freedom to mine wherever they please, in essence. If a field goes dry, you can relocate to another system entirely. Most factioned pilots don't have that option, and it doesn't take long until things are fully mined out.

<strike>Get Miner ID and Outcast IFF, go to mine in Tao23.
Profit?

No not really at the currnet situation there is no point of this Miner ID- it is nerfing yourself for nothing.
Since everyone and his dog can join every mining faction as indie and receive better mining bonus you can do it too.
I would be so happy if only the official mining factions get better bonus then the indies. At some point in order not to see them dying-DHC ,it is sad- both official Kruger and BMM dosen't have even 10% of the whole miner mob in their factions.
Only IMG does well, ,may be because they are miners with battleships and gunboats who knows. Anyway dont use Miner ID for mining it is practically useless.

You can do this just as well with a mining faction -- each has several places that they can mine. Plus, relocating a miner is a giant waste of money, if you want the possibility to mine elsewhere you're better off having another character already in the system.

Question about Miner ID - SaraOConnel - 07-03-2011

Personally, I'd see that as rather poor form, geared more towards moneymaking, than making real, believable characters. But I suppose it's also true. Personally, I myself am working on a small, dispersed group of mining vessels, about two per field that I've got set out. That way, I can hop between a greater variety of fields, but still have the common goal of the faction I'm working on. I'm not just contributing to a bunch of companies that I have no emotional or mental ties to, I'm trying to eke out a economic basis for a faction.

But I mean, that's just from my perspective. I like all of my ships to have complete freedom- without having to worry about ZOI restrictions. I remember back when I had a GC, I'd get ragged on for being in the Omicrons, since it wasn't my ZOI. When all I was interested in was looking for some interesting RP opportunities, albeit usually specifically with nomads.

I find that the Miner ID, and other 'generic' ID's allow more freedom with individual ships and crews than factionized IDs.
