Graphics Card Upgrade - Switchback - 07-18-2011 so, I am planning on doing a bit of upgrading for my Rig, and was wondering: Is a single EVGA GTX 550 a worthwhile upgrade from 2x GTX 260s? If I did get the 550, I would remove one of the 260s from my rig, and plop it in our family desktop, and have one of the cards running dedicated PhysX. If not, should I upgrade at all? Or what would be a better card? Please note, my rig is Nvidia based so no ATI please. Thanks. Graphics Card Upgrade - Rivas - 07-18-2011 ' Wrote:so, I am planning on doing a bit of upgrading for my Rig, and was wondering: I believe it is,as shown here 550. As you can see,the 550 is more than capable of delivering at least mainstream performance in all current titles. Also, you would get a huge benefit in some titles that intensively use PhysX (since you mentioned you want to keep a 260 for this purpose). You would also gain a lot in terms of heat and power consumption with such a configuration, rather than a SLI. My advice would be to get at least one GTX 560 though.I got 2 of them for a couple of months now,and sincerely i don't believe i'll be needing to mess with the graphics subsystem for until...2013 ? Graphics Card Upgrade - Jongleur - 07-18-2011 I just upgraded from a 9800 GTX that crapped out on me to an MSI GTX560 Ti Twin Frozr II. Big difference as it's about 2 or 3 gens of vid card maturity. Cost was about $250 CAD so not too expensive. I figure it'll last me for a couple of years, especially if I get another and SLI them. Graphics Card Upgrade - ivr56 - 07-19-2011 No. A Single 550 Ti is around a single GTX 260 but uses less power and has DX11. In my eyes you'd be wasting money. Twin GTX 260 will still last you a long time. But the best viable upgrade I'd say are 4 options. GTX 560, GTX 560 Ti, GTX 470 or GTX 570 are your best bets. You wont see much of a difference in performance other then DX11 if you go with the 550Ti. Graphics Card Upgrade - Switchback - 07-19-2011 ' Wrote:No. I shoulda asked you on steam >.> anyway thanks. I feel like a complete and utter noob for being lazy and not doing the research myself. shame on the A+ certified technician for failing :L |
