Rules Translations? - Kuraine - 02-22-2008 I was just thinking about the many non-english speakers are playing Disco, or at least people who have difficulty understanding or speaking English and this idea came up. I know it's an English speaking server and they do generally try to speak English, but I was wondering whether it was worth having the rules translated into a couple of other languages to help ease of reading for those who have difficulty with English? I couldn't possibly help with this unfortunately, as i'm not fluent enough in any language really. But I thought it might be worth while having English, French, German and Spanish versions of the rules, if nothing else. I don't know, I just thought i'd bring it up and see what people make of it. Might not be practical or wanted, who knows. Rules Translations? - pchwang - 02-22-2008 This actually has popped up several times before. I personally feel that it would not hurt to translate these rules, especially with all the high tech translators out there right now. Even the free ones can do it in a spiffy, and someone who speaks the language can check it over with relative ease. The problem is the fact that disco is an english speaking server. The general concensus was that if you could not communicate properly in the language, you would not be able to contribute to the RP of the server. Of course, I do not speak for everyone here. Rules Translations? - Unseelie - 02-22-2008 My opinion is that yes, it should be done. Having been done, the non-English ones should be sure to explain that if you cannot communicate in English, you can't RP here, and this is an RP server. Rules Translations? - Guest - 02-22-2008 Both arguments are good points, I can't choose which one is mine thought, but I am able to translate the rules in Italian language and keep updating it without any problems, if you need me I'm here. Rules Translations? - Ion - 02-22-2008 they should translate one rule into several languages and broadcast it over the server channels: If you cant speak English, find another server! Rules Translations? - Guest - 02-22-2008 When I got here first time I was not so skilled in speaking or writing or reading english as I am now, nor my teammate Mc was. Lots of hours spent with veteran RPlayers have considerably improved my english and rp knowledge, consequently I am teaching it to my teammate. This also helped me in my real life work, improving my selling skills in another language (I work in a commercial center). Don't be so hurry to go to conclusions. Rules Translations? - sinned-40 - 02-22-2008 Puck ... Dude Harsh.. Rules Translations? - ScornStar - 02-22-2008 This is a game and if some one can take real life benefits from it awesome they need to try to speak english, learn as fast as possible but exspect a rough time at first. Rules Translations? - mwerte - 02-23-2008 Ok...I see both points. LoTek its great that you can learn English this way, I have even learned a little German from a few players. I am not opposed to non-english people coming here, but I had a problem the other night that serves as a perfect example. I returned to Alpha as RoS to find a Synth foods tagged FL ID fighter killing Bounty Hunters. I told him about 5 times to leave then opened fire. He fled and then PMed me in German. He spoke about 4 words in English but we managed to come to the understanding that he was working on rep. Now, what if he had spoke French (which I have NO understanding of) and had come back to Alpha? I would have put him down as re-engaging.... Rules Translations? - Ion - 02-23-2008 yes it may seem harsh, but I have had to deal with a number of *cough* german players who cannot speak a word of english, and when i tell them ( i speak a bit) that they need to speak english they swear at me... or ignore me, and continue to be totally OORP... |
