Light Arms - Xoria - 08-09-2011

I recall that in the past I have seen some write ups regarding specific weapons that in the game are just called light arms. It occurs to me that it would be nice to have these described in the mod in news items or perhaps rumors.

If you can link me to any past descriptions of handguns, rifles, or other weapons that fall under the category light arms, I will appreciate it.

Also, if you'd like to create some descriptions, or author a line of weapons, this would be a good place to do it. Each military and police organization would likely have their own weapons line.

I'm not sure yet how these will be used, but I'm sure I can find a way.

Quote:->Rumor #133214:
You can't kill anyone onboard or in the immediate area of a Zoner base. That's why the Bounty Hunters are still breathing here. I would like nothing better than to walk over to a Bounty Hunter and eliminate them with my Daumann Devastator.
* Corsairs/ Josefina Ferrer
* Corsairs/ Manuel Llorens
* Corsairs/ Maris Guzman

Not sure that is what you are looking for but it is an in game reference to one type of light arm.

Here's at least one example that I found on the Wiki: http://discoverygc.com/wiki/index.php/Libe...andheld_Weapons - I've looked over the pages for all of the police and military player faction and not found any mention of light arms/weapons, really, besides this: http://discoverygc.com/wiki/index.php/Detroit_Munitions , which mentions "Ed Garner in 614 A.S. His name still graces the company's most popular line of blasters, despite the occasional attempt by an Ageira executive to have his own name imprinted onto a weapons line. "

Light Arms - Xoria - 08-10-2011

All those posts are what I'm looking for. Just drop it all in here, since this is all already public knowledge. No doubt there are stories and comm channel posts that imagined weapons as well. Anything is welcome to flesh out the background.

If anyone wants to work on news items, my preliminary idea is to have at least one news item for each House, maybe each House police and military that announces or describes the available weapons line. Some of this could be done in rumors also, talking about ordering new weapons, for instance.

I've got lots to do so if you have the urge and creativity, just go ahead and write something up and drop it in here.

[color=#FFFFFF]Well there models names are not very specific, but as I recall there are rumours about it in New York

Light Arms - Zukeenee - 08-10-2011

Oh, well this is convenient. I just finished writing up a post in the Comms Channel in which I named a made-up weapon being used by a KSP officer. I tried to look up Japanese gun manufacturers and models for reference, but in the five minutes or less I spent searching, all I could really find were WWII-era guns.

So I called the gun a Samura Type 94 handgun, since all the other guns I found in my "research" were named just as blandly.

If we do end up doing that thing with house police and militaries announcing their newest weapons, I'll probably try to come up with something flashier. But for now, there ya go. I made up a gun. Yay.

Looking at the economy listing for Light Arms, its clear the Houses are the primary producers, and following on from that the Junkers on-sell to unlawfuls.

$100 Detroit Munitions Ageira Technologies
$110 Planet New Berlin Rheinland Federal Police
$165 Planet Kyushu Kusari State Police
$176 Planet New London Bretonia Police

Here are your minimum 4 in terms of infocards and rumours.

Once the weapon references are made, then perhaps further reference to those same weapons could be made at the other end - rumours where these weapons are most valued.

$1,041 Etna Base Corsairs Omicron Eta Edge Worlds
$1,042 Battleship Fes Corsairs Omega-47 Edge Worlds
$1,071 Seguro Refugio Outcasts Omicron-81 Edge Worlds

From the Houses, out to the fringes.

Here is a bunch of infocards left over from some of the Detroit Munitions documents that Dab was putting together.

056071
"THE RING -- Daumann's weapons Research and Development Division announced that it had created a new Side Arm that would compete with the ever-popular Detroit Perforator. The new weapon will be called the Daumann Shredder, capable of firing extremely high velocity splinters made of depleted Uranium. The thousands of projectiles contained in a typical burst have been shredding targets in Daumann tests."

056083
"HAMBURG -- The Hamburg Plasmaball team mascot, Zuggie the Juggernaut, met a violent end in Hamburg'€™s playoff bout with the Colorado Eagles. Zuggie has been the Juggernaut'€™s mascot for over two centuries, and though he was an old robot, his popularity was tremendous. Apparently, an overzealous Eagle fan smuggled a Detroit Landblaster into the arena. During the halftime show, just as Zuggie was finishing his act, a rocket flew from the stands and destroyed him. Rheinland Federal Police quickly gunned down the Liberty fan before anyone else could be hurt."

056357
"NEW YORK -- This time Liberty's finest managed to pull off the biggest Xeno Side Arm score in as long as anyone can remember. Twelve of our pilots hit an Ageira armored transport filled with the finest weapons made in Detroit. We only lost four pilots, and now it looks like there will be weapons for everybody. There will be special sale at the Commodity dealer to clear out the excess inventory. All friends of the Xenos are welcome."

131150
"We supply Side Arms to the Rogue base out in the Barrier. The Outcasts also buy from us. Nothing cheaper than Detroit Side Arms."

131196
"If it's personal protection you'€™re looking for, Ageira Technologies has the answer. Try our famous Mk 11 Perforator -- a great price and guaranteed to put more holes in your target than necessary. If it'€™s stopping power you want, you'€™ll get it with our line of Wide Bore Pocket Cannons. The finest products are available exclusively from Detroit Munitions, just a quick Trade Lane jump away. "

131197
"We ship Side Arms here to Manhattan from Detroit, our munitions plant that serves all of Liberty and much of Kusari and Bretonia. We don't usually ship Detroit weaponry to Rheinland because they produce their own, but it doesn't compare with Detroit Deathware. "

131317
"I keep a Mk 3 Riot Breaker behind the bar here. Not to say I'€™d use it on a navy boy, but we'€™ve got Bounty Hunters aboard who can get unruly sometimes. They tend to quiet down fast when you level some Detroit machinery on 'em.

131321
"The Side Arms you see on the hips of the personnel at this base are brought here by us from the Detroit Munitions plant. I carry one myself, a Detroit Mk 3 Resolver Hideway. It comes in handy for surprising would-be attackers. "

131323
"Ageira ships Basic Alloys from this base to Detroit for use in the manufacturing of personal weaponry."

131326
"Our finely crafted Detroit personal weaponry is sent throughout Sirius space from here -- that is, with the exception of Rheinland, which produces its own Side Arms. However, Detroit firepower is generally recognized as the best in personal protection."

131337
"If Ageira builds it, you can count on Universal being the company to ship it. Universal ships the Side Arms to Trenton from Detroit, and we've been doing so for many years. "

131779
"In 614 AS, Ageira began crafting Side Arms and personal weaponry at this manufacturing plant, and since then Detroit has been synonymous with firepower. When you want to put someone down fast, look to Detroit to meet your needs. "

131780
"This plant supplies Liberty, Bretonia, and Kusari with Side Arms and personal weaponry. The only other Side Arms factory is the Ring in New Berlin. But everyone knows that Detroit hardware is superior to the Rheinland arms.

131878
"This is the center of the universe for Ageira. Company HQ. I do my little part by shipping in Side Arms from Detroit. I take Optical Chips to Norfolk on the way back to New York. Only tough part of the trip is getting the Side Arms past the Xenos on the first stretch to Manhattan"

Following are Disco-added or Disco modified versions of vanilla infocards and rumors:

525077
"Surveyed in 1 A.S. along with the rest of the New York system, Maine has never had any resources worth the effort to extract them, or enough atmosphere to allow any effective colonisation effort. Deep Space Engineering, who own the rights to Maine, sometimes lease it out to the Liberty Navy and Detroit Munitions, in order for them to conduct weapons testing on the planet."

525078
"Detroit is the headquarters for Detroit Munitions, one of the oldest privately owned companies in Liberty. Detroit has been manufacturing small- and medium-sized arms since its founding by patriarch Ed Garner in 614 A.S. His name still graces the company's most popular line of blasters, despite the occasional attempt by an Ageira executive to have his own name imprinted onto a weapons line. Although Detroit Munitions as a company has been extremely successful, it eventually decided to partner with Ageira Technologies, in an effort to gain access to even more advanced weapons research, particularly in light of the contracts that Ageira holds with the Liberty Navy and the Liberty Security Forces. Ageira now owns the station itself and pays for its upkeep, although Detroit Munitions has several new outlets on Denver and a weapons testing range on Pittsburgh's moon of Maine.
