System Claiming - Titus - 02-11-2006

In my opinion, we should go back to system claiming.....but a bit different system claiming. One battle over one system shouldn`t mean the system is conquered. For example (just example), TG invades Kyushu. First battle won = Battleship Naguma secured, taken over. Second battle won = Tsushima depot taken, or if the battle was almost equal , futher securing of battleship nagumo or taking that reasearch station (i forgot its name. You can buy there Sunfury2 and Scrambler 2).
The battles should take place in diverse spots of the system, depending what do you want to take. That would make system claiming cool and would avoid a faction to take too many systems since it would be a pretty slow process. Also NPC`s can be involved here, i mean they could help the defending faction to defend its systems, obligating the invading faction to shoots the npc`s around to make them mad.....just an idea...i think its pretty cool.

The NPC's attacking the invading Player faction would be demanded as this is a RP server, isn't it?

It's taken me ages to get the kusari factions to be neutral after that war with the IG started. They only stopped shooting at me last night, Telthose knows as I was escorting his trader around (to protect against pirates).

And titus you forgot to add a 'No system claiming' option, along with a 'don't really care' option. (well someone's bound to select it).

I like that idea Titus it is really good :) and as you said, it takes time to conquer another system and thats cool, maybe we will see more fights now.

System Claiming - Missingno. - 02-11-2006

I'm persoanlly against the idea. I think that fighting over system control is good, but fighting over parts of a system will end in lots of different groups owning various sections of systems making things complicated and may cause a lot of arguements and conflicts over who owns what on the forum and in-game.

I like this idea and if two difernt factions end up controlling a faction so what it happens with the npcs, corsairs and hessians in omega ?? can't remeber which omega the one with hamon hole in it, GMG and ALG in one of the sigmas in dublin IMG and BMM both control part of the system so it happens fairly regularly, and we can have regular battles and long bitter wars which can be alot of fun

And so, territory maps will be HUGE, reprezenting ALL trade lanes and planets/bases/suns :)

System Claiming - Fire_Tzunami - 02-11-2006

I like the idea :)

And BTW omega 5 is the sistem where corairs battle with the hessians.

System Claiming - Xerxas Jade - 02-11-2006

I really like the idear.

but i think it would be a bitch to keep track of and mange

so i dont know.
irecon if u could find a easy way to implemnt it and run it its cool but yeh.

Out-of battle observers can inform about map changes. But the system map (which will be also HUUUUUUGE), maybe it will need a pinned post, and it will harsly change during wars. We need a volunteer..... :)

System Claiming - Igiss - 02-12-2006

The proposal is overcomplicated and will never be implemented, even if we all put all our efforts into it. Too much paperwork to keep it running.

Besides, you forgot about many important things. For example, NPC spawns in systems are different. In some parts, pirates spawn often, in some there are no pirates at all. Next, if one person shoots at NPCs, does it mean that all other members of same team become hostile to them? I'm not sure about that. So the NPC idea is rather unrealistic.

Next, about stations... Large systems got up to 15 of those, so battles will get real lengthy. And it's impossible to make one map with all systems and 'contents' of each system on it. There's something similar in DataStorm, but even there everything is too small to mark system parts.

And for the conclusion I should say that after that story about Dab and Gamma the idea of system claiming in any form seem wrong to me. If we have this terrotory feature on our server, there will be individuals like Dab who will consider their systems their private property. Freelancer has 'free' as part of its name. Players love freedom about this game, and depriving the server of freedom... seems just plain wrong.
