Attacking underlevel players. - RickJames - 02-25-2008 This post is just for informational purposes and is not targeted at or for anyone. I am just trying to help keep NY a supportive and encouraging place for new players. Today in NY an under level player with Liberty Police ID asked another underlevel player to drop his cargo of contraband. The player did not drop his cargo and the Police character killed him. I attempted to let him know that I felt it not the best thing to kill underlevel players even if both are underlevel. This was because I thought the rules allowed underlevel folks to pvp each other. The rules in fact do not say that. Below is the actual rule for under level pvp. 5.3 Attacking characters of level 29 and below is prohibited. Characters under level 30 cannot be attacked by players of any level, except if they have non-Civilian ID onboard, and except cases of self-defense. So it appears that an underlevel character with Civilian ID can not be engaged by anyone including other underlevel players unless in self defense. For folks who do not know the official criteria for Self-Defense here it is. For purposes of these Rules occasional shooting or shooting "for fun" does not count as an attack if it does not result in draining shields to 50% or lower or hull damage. Intentional ramming of any large ship is also considered an attack. Peace. It would be better that way. Attacking underlevel players. - Xoria - 02-26-2008 ' Wrote:I think the rule was un-officially changed to "Any player with a faction ID and tag is a 'shootable target'" The following text in bold IS the new portion of the rule that means exactly that. It's been this way since a day or so after that discussion ended. I know, because I was on the losing end of the debate. ' Wrote:5.3 Attacking characters of level 29 and below is prohibited. Does this mean it is okay to attack an underlevel player if they have Trader ID? Attacking underlevel players. - chopper - 02-26-2008 No, it's okay to tax/pirate him. If he, however, has a Lane Hacker ID, he's a viable target. That's why LSF/SA chased my Dagger for 15 minutes into infinite space:) Even though it's allowed to attack players under lvl 30 with no-civilian ID, it is most certainly isn't fair. And it most certainly isn't the most moral thing you can do. But it's by the books, so if you want a kill message, go ahead. I certainly think that at the absolute least, demanding their withdraw from range of your guns/withdraw from your territory or you'll open fire is a decent thing to do. Especially if you're considerably higher than them. Give them a chance, talk to them, explain in PM if they're having trouble with any concepts or need help with anything. If they have a Lane Hacker ID and tag (for example), and they persist in causing trouble despite attempts to help them, blow them away. Actually, "underlevel" no longer has any real meaning. If you have any ID other than a Civilian ID, then you are a legal target within the roleplaying guidelines (police vs pirate etc). If you have a civilian ID above rank 40, then you are violating server rules. Generally, I don't attack those people except in extreme circumstances, because I figure that they obviously have no clue what is going on and won't be much fun to interact with anyway. How an "illegal" Civilian ID over rank 40 should be treated in roleplaying terms, I really don't know. I suppose you could fall back to basing your actions on their Tag and Ship choice. Usually, I just ignore them or remind them to get another ID. Attacking underlevel players. - Zapp - 02-26-2008 I never engage anyone under level 40, period. Just makes everything neater. Also, I'm not the kind of guy that fights everything that moves (contrary to popular belief of the RM...) and... well... yeah. That's it. Just don't shoot 'em if they're under level 40, even if they're ID'd. Unless they engage... say a level 37 Corsair ID'd Titan flew by, I wouldn't shoot first. I would give him the option. Attacking underlevel players. - Boss - 02-26-2008 For me, it depends on the system and what character I'm flying in. If I'm in my Outcast, and I see a Corsair, he's fired upon after a scan and a hail. If it's a BH, same deal. In NY as an LSF or LPI, I let them be unless they fire at me. Then they die. Attacking underlevel players. - marauder - 02-29-2008 I use to do that about a year ago as a phantom, if it's under lvl 40 I left it alone unless it fired first. It worked well, those who had been reading the forums RP'd farely well, until I came across a new player with a pirate ID in shikoku (sp?). He demanded that I stop and be pirated. Yup, he demanded a phantom Battleship to heave to. I tried to explain IC and in RP why it's not a good idea to do that, he just repeated the demand and added that being a phantom was 'nothing special' to him. I led him around until the other phantoms said 'bring him to us'. Four battleships, a desssie and cayliths VHF blew him. Never did see him around again... Back OT again, I don't shoot people if their under level unless they shoot first. A mammoth fired on my novapg char, I started to circle him to see what he'd do. He fired again and continued to do so, after he dropped my shield to less then 25% I fired back. He popped after three salvoes :( But he never said a word before firing and he never said nothing afterwards. |
