Strange problem - sn!p3r - 02-29-2008 Please only post if you know the problem or have an idea of what may be causing this Well, this has been happening for a while now, not a big issue but its an issue this morning i had 3.5 gb left out of 106 gb on my hdd, and just a bit ago it says 11 gb.. i didn't delete anything either... I like having more space, i just want to know where its coming from *scratches head* Strange problem - Horon - 02-29-2008 If you are running windows (which I sure you are), You have a TEMP folder on your computer. Running programs, and auto-extracting installers and other kinds of programs will place files in there while they are running. Its basically a cache. Usually when a program is shut down, the files it used are deleted. Sometimes however, they aren't. Sounds like something used a LOT of space, and it somehow 'left the building'. You can manually empty it using "Disk Cleanup" or whatever its called. EDIT: Do you have "Hibernation" avaible on your computer? Strange problem - Boss - 02-29-2008 Another thing to watch for is how much you've allocated to virtual memory. That can eat your HD alive. Strange problem - old.steel - 02-29-2008 Hi there. If you use fraps perhaps you want to check if you did not accidently recorded some videos. This happend some days ago to me. Strange problem - skoko - 02-29-2008 That happened to me too.. Well I deleted some movies from my hard drive... and then checked its size and it was around 20 gb free space... I turned off computer and went to bed... Next day I was working on some text files (couple kb) and after editing couple files I deleted rest ... Then i emptied my Recycle bin and had 45 gb of free space... Maybe you did similar thing.... Files that aren't directly deleted stay in cache on hard drive... (at least i think so) Or maybe Old Steel is right ... it can happen ... |
