Corsairs and Cannibalism - Klaw117 - 09-03-2011

Lately, I've been seeing a lot of Corsair enemies call the Corsairs cannibals, which is fine and all since they actually did commit cannibalism a long time ago (I don't think it's been done in years though, but the stigma has stuck to them). However, I'm kind of wondering...would the Corsairs really let knowledge of this get out into the public? In the SP campaign, I was under the impression that the Corsairs only told this to their most trusted allies. If I remember correctly, the rumor that mentioned cannibalism was found on Planet Crete (I think. I can't confirm it since that website with all the rumors is only in the favorites menu of my home computer and not my college laptop) and could only be seen after becoming friendly with the Corsairs. Given that this piece of knowledge appears to be only shared with the Corsairs' most trusted allies, I'm wondering how it's possible that the enemies of the Corsairs would know something so sensitive about the Corsairs.

They are man-eating scum. Just accept it.

Corsairs let Zoner land on Crete. 'nuff said.

I was under the impression the cannibal thing was just a corsair meme

I was just wondering about where all these slaves had gone. But maybe they prefer vacationers and tourists more.:D

This is Discovery, everybody knows everything, there are no secrets, and the escape pod always works.

But yes, you are correct, it was several hundred years ago iirc, and one incident.

If you consider an entire clan giving themselves up as food for the rest so that the other clans could survive, one incident. Sure.

This might not be true, as far as Corsair lore is concerned, but I occasionally hear a Sails| or two allude to having eaten a captured hostage...

If they tell it to "most trusted allies", it basically means that in a few hundred years all sirius will know it. Even not telling outsiders about it probably wouldn't help. Rumors travel faster than light.

I believe there is a rumor you can find (on Crete) which details this particular truth.

They gave themselves up so that the rest could survive. Human history is dotted with examples of it. Some are mentioned in the link like the Whaleship Essex (a good read if you get the chance) or more recently, Flight 571. Bear in mind these people were not taken to be eaten, they did it to survive. Terran history however is rather more grim.

Reading through that page, it looks a lot of you may not be as innocent as you proclaim.....
Anyhow, with regard to it as an insult, it wears a bit thin. Try being a little more original.
