Because it seems the devs want to get rid of as much of the Phantom lore as much as they can, which I can understand.

I'm sure they are capable of doing their jobs. If they want it removed, it will be removed. When that happens, it would be called a retcon. Though, that isn't only Phantom lore, as it is part of the lore of Cambridge itself. So it is more complicated than just removing Phantom lore.
