Role Playing! - Ascended~Sempi - 03-06-2008 the idea of role playing is to play the char as if u where him. well lets see first thing is weapons u cant say that a BH useing a corsair wepon is wrong as if u take a look at WW2 allied soldiers where useing german side arms thay picked up off dead german soliders so if we are to get it as close to the real thing as possable then this is called salvageing and ts completely role playing. Mercs mercs in real life kill anyone lawful or un lawful nomatter where thay are or who thay are so why should it chage here the idea of being a merc is u can work for both sides with out picking a side is it not? therefore dont u think that this a merc chasein a rouge cant dock at a rouge base is stupid. at the moment thats all i have to say! sempi out Role Playing! - Tomtomrawr - 03-06-2008 This is interesting (i'll post more later when i get home). Edit: ok, back home now Looting has always been something that gets new people to the server in trouble. They go kill NPC's (eg, Corsairs) they take there weapons and think "I can use this because i took it from the enemy ships" so they equip it, and another player sees they have it, takes a screeny, and the player with the gun gets sanctioned. It does happen in real life but thats because people in real life don't have to play role-play and obey rules, there in war so they fight to survive and they do whatever they need to do to survive. If they need to take the enemies guns because there low on ammo or because there gun is broken then they do it, but on Discovery we can't just use any weapons that we want. I have been sanctioned for it before so i had to learn the hard way). Role Playing! - Ion - 03-06-2008 *hands sempi shovel* Role Playing! - Jinx - 03-06-2008 the idea of roleplaying must be differentiated. your example of BHG works ... but not in all ways around. for example... a bounty hunter does not know numerical stats for the weapons the guild offers.. he is told "hey, dude - these are the guild weapons, finest results and freshly from out research laboratories, which, i have to say - deal with specialized weapons to counter the unlawfuls for years." so, this particular BHG will of course think, "oh, my, i have the finest weapons there are... and they are offered to me; hence, he receives a package of buckshots and reavers - and is all happy about it" such a BHG will not salvage the first outcast wreck and think... wow, kraken 2, those are even better, lets strip them on my ship. - nor will he use a sabre, even if he could ( borderworld design is civilian - and he would basicly have the right to..... ) BUT.... the hammerhead was build to counter the sabre AND the titan AND many other pirate ships... its the best there is, at least for all the BHG knows. ***
now, you dould aswell say that it is as much in RP to take the best there is. no doubt about that. a blood dragon, with order armor, supernova, outcast inferno, colada del cids and a salamanca II turret. right - those are awesome weapons - and it could be inRP to use them all in one ship, no doubt... but that means that you are not playing some common merc - but rather some specialist that knows perfectly what every piece of equipment does, compared to other equipment.you can justify everything with your role. from flying a shieldless battleship up to a container transport with 12 marsflyer turrets. - but if you leave the ordinary, you ll have to live with people asking questions, people watching you apprehensivly etc. having only faction gear doesnt make you any better - but it leaves people that critiizise you less room. while taking a lot of freedom regarding to your behaviour and equipment makes you vulnerable for critizism. - justified critizism. but you are right, when its about roleplay literally, you can even justify a zoner in a juggernaut hanging out at planet manhatten, blowing up everything that moves with 16 nomad turrets while he is singing the national anthem of nigeria. ... might not be ooRP for that person.. but for everyone else, it will appear so, and they ll ask questions about it. Role Playing! - tfmachad - 03-06-2008 ' Wrote:...If you get renowned for killing Rogues, it is very much out of RP. If you kill a Rogue outside of a Rogue base and then dock, it is very much out of RP. The base should be shooting you to begin with. The Mandalorians are specifically instructed not to dock in any of the lawful bases in Kusari space because we are renowned to be working against the KNF, so it is pretty much out of RP for us to even try. We would be arrested if we were lucky, more likely killed. If you did one job against a Rogue far away from their territory and no one got to know about it, then I'd say perhaps. Quite risky if you ask me, but maybe yes. Role Playing! - Stoat - 03-06-2008 What this all comes down to is a bit of common sense, and respect for other people. Getting nothing but the best weapons in the best ship may seem like a good idea, but you can only know what's the best by comparing stats, and that, eventually, becomes metagaming. Just because you can do something, does not necessarily mean that you should. If you want to end up with something along the lines of Jinx's example, that's all very well, but start from the beginning when you do it. So be a Blood Dragon. Then RP a defection to the Outcasts. Then RP a traitorous shift to the Corsairs, followed by a development of the character to the Order. That way you can justify what you're flying by the RP you've spent months working on, rather than just appearing in the middle of NY as a bounty hunter, police tagged, with an Order ID flying a Zoner destroyer. Edit: This is not an attack on any particular character, just an extreme example to make a point. Role Playing! - marauder - 03-06-2008 ' Wrote:the idea of role playing is to play the char as if u where him. Yup, thats the whole point. Quote:well lets see Fair enough. A couple (thats two for those who can't count) of 'salvaged/looted' weps are fine with me. But a full loadout of nomads will get you classified as a 'Wild' and KoS. Likewise a full codename loadout will get you called a 'graverobber' (or 'necro' depending on my mood) because you obviously got them off the wrecked ship of a dead pilot, or consorted with someone who did. One of my characters is a complete psychopath, but none of them will ever consider looting a wreck. It's a grave, the occupants might not have been good people when they were alive but they deserve to be left to RIP. Quote:Mercs Which is why mercs aren't trusted. Both iRL and ingame. My [Phantom] and [TAZ] characters detest mercs and will happily kill em IF they think they can get away with it. My Novapg char however has an even lower opinion of mercs, which is what you'd expect from a blood dragon. But, he does realise that not all mercs are scum, which is why he is ok with the maldorians (sp?). As for me personally, I'd rather shoot a merc in the head with both barrels of a 12-gauge shotgun then talk to one. Role Playing! - Oniros - 03-06-2008 I do not know all salvage weps we can found. Can Colada, Inferno, Kraken 2, mini razor, SN be loot ? We can justify everything with words. The truth is simple, we want the best to be the best. If we were completely RP, true to your character etc... No cash transfer will exist for a new char, we will have to start over and over to get the money and pay for the armor mk8, the SN, the mini razor, etc... And of course, I do not mention, our trader that finance our capital ship... Are we ready to do that ? To justify any connection between our characters ? I'm not. So I accept the limit the whole community rules and agreement By the way, IG behaviour will talk for us. Role Playing! - Vape - 03-06-2008 well said oniros /signed @i think the kraken 2 can be looted, those others have to be bought. @marauder, i use only codenames in the class 10 slots on my fighters, especially my claws. (cept my blood dragon, it has six kraken 2s), because they are the best weapons i can get and they fit my fighting abilities. i hate class 9s in all forms, until they get better Role Playing! - marauder - 03-06-2008 ' Wrote:@marauder, i use only codenames in the class 10 slots on my fighters, especially my claws. (cept my blood dragon, it has six kraken 2s), I meant my characters think that. As for me personally, they're dead and don't need it. 'You can't take it with you' as the old saying goes. Oh, and I think you'll find that theres a few class 9s that do more damage over time or have better damage to energy ratios then codenames. |
