Being an indie - Scaryowl - 10-12-2011

I've just read some recruitment threads and noticed that players who just entered the faction have restrictions concerning ship usage. I don't want to enter an official faction now, since I'm newbie, want to practice my RP skills for a while. Am I free to use any ship I want (ID allowed of course), and add a faction tag to my name? I suppose this is not against the server rules. But will I be frowned upon by experienced faction members? (like:"his rp is awful, who allowed him to fly our ship":))

You should not use a faction tag unless you are part of a player faction. The ships available to you as an indie are listed in your ID, official factions restrict the ships their members can use so as to appear a bit more professional and to limit the ratio of capital ships to snubcraft in their faction.

Well, if you are not official faction member, YOU CANT USE official faction members tag

Fe [KNF], [LN] , [HF], [RM] etv

BUT you can use any other tag, which is not considered official like

NavalForces, LibertyNavy, RheinlandMilitary and so on and so on.

PS best way to learn RP is to start with official faction and learn from more experienced players in there while flying with them.

Yeah, I know, but some recruitment requirements just seem very hard for me at this point (like writing an entire character story, my english is still weak for things like this).

EDIT: And it seems, they need skype everywhere, which I don't have because internet here is still rather expensive for video chatting:(

As an indie, you can fly any ship the ID allows. If you want to add your own tag, feel free to. A popular one for different houses are the cap-tags, which can also be used on fighters (IKN, RNS, LNS, RMS, HMS, MNS, etc)

IKN, RNS, LNS, RMS, HMS, MNS, etc
well those tags are basically reserved to CAPITAL ships.

as I said, every tag which is unofficial you can use.

So [KNF] cant, BUT NF, Naval-name etc can

Two last posts are obvious for me already:)

Why do you need to have skype account? For video comm or just like ICQ?

Skype is typically text-only for most factions, video and voice conferences are rare.

Imperial Kusari Navy
Royal Navy Ship
Liberty Navy Ship
Rheinland Military Ship
Her Magisty's Ship
Maltese Navy Ship

Doesn't say caps, so any other ship can use them too,

I thought, it says "Maltese Naval Service". Whatever.

I'd never saw any indie snubcraft using such tag.

Back to topic: I would suggest you to leave tags out as long as you're not member of a faction which forces you to have one.

Unless you like to show others who you are. (Though, you're IFF already shows that.)

In the end you can use any tag which comes into your mind, but watch out, that you won't use any already existing tag without being a member of that faction which uses it.
