Mother Nature hates computer geeks - Agmen of Eladesor - 11-11-2011 Okay, aside from the rather cheesy title... In case you were planning or thinking about building or buying a computer or something else (like a security DVR) that uses a regular hard disk - We've seen the prices on those quadruple within the last couple of weeks. About 45% of all the HDD's in the world come from a dozen factories that are in Thailand. Said factories in Thailand are only accessible now via SCUBA or submarine. The rest of the factories are already running at 98% capacity. So cheap HDD's are a thing of the past, at least second quarter of 2012, is what we're hearing - and it may be longer than that. Just an FYI, in case you didn't know about this. Mother Nature hates computer geeks - Curios - 11-11-2011 Wow, good thing i got my new 2 tb HDD a month or so ago, so i can live with thailand being sinked (sun) P.S. However a nature could be mad on thailand for some another reason (lalal) Mother Nature hates computer geeks - NixOlympica - 11-11-2011 Bought mine 2 months ago, thou I was thinking about SSD. Guess that will have to wait. Mother Nature hates computer geeks - Echo 7-7 - 11-11-2011 So, uh. Who has a SCUBA set I can borrow? Edit: Or submarine? That would be better. Mother Nature hates computer geeks - Bloody Reverb - 11-11-2011 Phew.....so i saved my money. Yay... And i wont need any more "space" since i have around +-12Tb now. Mother Nature hates computer geeks - Tenacity - 11-11-2011 Quote:...The rest of the factories are already running at 98% capacity. Obviously those child laborers arent working hard enough. Mother Nature hates computer geeks - Toaster - 11-11-2011 Ah crap. Mother Nature hates computer geeks - r3vange - 11-11-2011 [color=#FFFFFF]Occupy nature Mother Nature hates computer geeks - CHUNKINATOR - 11-11-2011 Crap.. Srsly Crap... I didn't know it was that bad, I was planning on getting a couple of WD 1tb Caviar Black's for the PC I'm building after Christmas. Damn. Mother Nature hates computer geeks - onca - 11-12-2011 Holy smokes... I was wondering about that. I noticed the price of HDDs had rocketed, I thought it was the Aussie $ or the frigging European economic fiasco or something. Poor Thailand, they are the world's nicest people, hopefully their flood situation will resolve soon. |
