Solution to NewYork over-population problem - Xing - 03-25-2008 Xings proposal on the termination of too-many-idiots-flying-with-no-real-rp-reasons-in-new-york Here's the idea. Change the starting point to a more neutral ground. Among such places, Harris is a good one, far from Liberty, yet not too far. Ames, FP 2 and Curaco, are possible candidates due to lower leveled NPCs, but not that good since its nearer to new york. I crossed out the far away freeports and planet kurile, etc (too far away, too near strong pirate presence, nothing really of interest anyway and other factors) Hence, it's about the neutral stations between the systems conecting each house from another. I analysed the situation, and here are the following reasons, I believe they are qutie global, as to WHY people are sticking to new york. -It is your starting place -Most populated place= feel like populating it even more -people feels like they can go all oorp since its starting place -weapons dealer are all stacking here -a highly profitable route pass by here. -Most credit transfers, are done here -Capship driver like to show off their ship -one of only a few places where mercs can succesfully get hired -SA and LSF, among the most numerous faction of the server (I think?) -Easy ressources for starters -Easy NPCs My solution and their solving the problems: FIRST: change the starting place to a neutral ground. My suggestions: -Harris: advantages: at an ideal distance of overpopulated new york, start up in an interesting atmosphere, putting you directly with the kusari-bretonian war (immediate immersion with server important part of storyline), add up kusari or bretonian population which is severly in lack of, unpopulate new york disadvantage: far from easy to start up ressources, missions too hard for newbies, dangerous environment in mine fields, system only partially trade lined can be annoying to newbie, dangerous environment due to kusari-bretonian raid, few activities of importance in the area -Curaco/Ames/Freeport 4/Freeport 2 advantage: Easiest NPCs of all my suggestions, near places of easy to get ressources for newbie (ship, commodities), unpopulate New York disadvantage: effect probably less or more apparent as new york is only a few jumps away -Hegoland/Yanagi/that GMG station in s-13 I forgot the name advantage: quite far away from New York, interesting start up place, important trade route around, populate kusari or rheinland disadvantage: worse than harris, extremely dangerous environment (wild, corsair, outcast, etc etc), very far away from easy to get ressources I'll follow on suggestion 1 and 3, as I believe 2 isnt good enough due to the magnetism New York is, too near. The amerlioration to make, mod and server side: -make more newbie ship available in the vicinity -reduce surrounding NPC levels (the system itself and those around) -remove a few of the cheaper ships in liberty. Transfer them to these areas. -easier missions. Also, make missions worth a bit more. Enough to eventually buy a good freighter, not enough to build up millions over it. Say, a mission of 5k could be worth 10K instead. -A much more neutral reputation. The amelioration people on server should do: -Pirates, reduce your taxation fee accordingly to player level. Not very RP, but we should be fair to starters. for instance, 2M on someone who just bought his transport, is harsh. -Lawful, can extends their patrols in these suggested neutral areas (in the case of sigma 13). Due to already high pirate activities, they wont linger around, but will be active, clashing with pirates and hopefully, rp. A good immersion for newbies. -Gun dealers, should immediately change their trading points to places such as New Berlin or Honshu (in the case of sigma 13 being chosen), or Leeds (in the case of Bretonia). Maybe your profits will drop slightly at the beginning, but if your customer thinks for the good of the server, they should move too, and your profit should be back on in no time. Not very final, Id like it to be developed with the various ideas of the community. Basically, its I believe, quite easy to do. The real work is about finding appropriate bases and ships to sell newbie ships to starters. Solution to NewYork over-population problem - MB52 - 03-25-2008 How about FP1 in omega 3? the one by the planet you go to in SP to pick up the scientists and the docking ring gets blown up.. Its not too busy there, and easy npcs, and far enough away too. Solution to NewYork over-population problem - Xing - 03-25-2008 yeah this place could fit as well. plus, its near a few of the decent trade routes, and just two jump away from New London, in need of some population. Solution to NewYork over-population problem - Horon - 03-25-2008 Igiss said he isn't going to change the starting point, but neither him or anyone else can give a better idea that he likes...so....I guess its either up to us to live with it, or take matters into our own hands...right? Solution to NewYork over-population problem - Reverend Del - 03-25-2008 Right, I'm goiing to explain this very carefully, as it's been explained to me. To change the starting system would affect the singleplayer game, and whilst I know the general consensus is that SP has become largely unplayable due to the ramped up difficulty of the NPC's, it's still a primary concern. Secondly in order to change the starting system, assuming that the SP aspect is to be scrapped, would require a vast restructuring not only of the starting system but all the systems that surround it, the NPC levels don't just go from level 1 in New York to level 19 in Texas, there is a gradiation of difficulty meaning that you can go from system to system and increase your skill and profit by doing so. Changing the immediate neighbour systems would then mean their neighbour sytems need altering, and the work load increases exponentially with every step you need to take. From what I can gather this would require an entirely new version of the mod, essentially rebuilt from scratch. Given that I have been told by credible sources that Igiss has no intention of doing away with the singleplayer campaign, this idea becomes relatively moot. But if the opposite is in fact true, the above needs very much taking into account. Solution to NewYork over-population problem - Xing - 03-25-2008 I always find the SP question highly questionnable. From many players point of view, it is about impossible to pass SP mission with the discovery mod. So why keeping it at all? As to rebalancing, that would be indeed the major work to be done. a srrounding of at least 1 system in every possible direction, must be nerfed down. On the other hand, we may boost up the stuffs around new york. Solution to NewYork over-population problem - Patriot - 03-25-2008 when we activate the mods in FLMM they have a section for start location just activate this and the problem are solved:cool: the most easy solution are the best:cool: Solution to NewYork over-population problem - Reverend Del - 03-25-2008 ' Wrote:I always find the SP question highly questionnable. Quote:New system for new players - Will be considered in the future mod version. Avoid posting any more suggestions until it's confirmed or not. It seems Igiss is already on it.... Solution to NewYork over-population problem - OsoRojo - 03-25-2008 All miss the obvious....Lock PvP in New York, like days of yore.:) Solution to NewYork over-population problem - Rashnok - 03-25-2008 Umm, from what I gather, locking PVP in New York will just make it absolutely ridiculous. Someone out to get you? Fly to New York! Pirates coming? Fly to New York! Law coming? Fly to New York! Smuggling card? Why bother going to Rochester or the Badlands, Manhatten is perfectly safe. |
