Since now we have an official release date from Blizzard, I can safely say that I won't be doing anything but Battle.net after May 15.

You may want to re-read release info. They are releasing the game, but will be no multi-player for now. They will be releasing multi-player as a patch later down the road. Multi-player was what was holding up th release so they said screw it for now, just get the game out.
So no multi-player means no Battle.net.

As far as I know, you can still kick arse in hell with a group or single player. There is just no PVP arena coming out. That will be in a patch later.
