Hacker faces 60 years in prison - Fletcher - 03-28-2012

This is yet another rant as to why I hate the law system sometimes, no matter the country.

A certain hacker broke into several celebrities e-mail and phone accounts I think, and eventually nude photos of Scarlett Johansson leaked onto the Internet. (Oh the noes.)

The hacker faces up to 60 years in prison, and a $2.2 million fine. The hell!? Sure what he did was wrong and he really does deserve to be punished. But 60 years?! Likely he'll only be inside for a few then paroled or something.

But then I stumbled on an article where a man killed a cab driver with his own taxi, and got out of jail after five years on parole.

That is completely and totally unfair!

Wrong a celebrity, your life is over. More ways than one, but kill a man ohhh noo, in jail for a few.

Even child abusers and murderers get less years sometimes...

Weird world it is.

There's unfairness, absurdity, injustice and ridiculousness all over the place. What more can you do as single human than take cognizance of it and try not to contemplate over it too often.

The death of one innocent is a statistic...The breaking into thousands of celebritie's emails and accounts is a tragedy!

Key thing - he faces up to 60 years in prison.

He hasn't had a trial yet, nor has he actually been sentenced, nor has he done any kind of plea bargain.

So you're just as guilty of sensationalizing this as the paper is.

Remember, the other guy faced up LIFE in prison before his trial and subsequent conviction. (He couldn't have faced the death penalty because he was in Illinois, which doesn't HAVE a death penalty. If he'd done that in Indiana, he could have faced DEATH.)

Also, state crime - only two charges - versus federal crime with multiple (50 counts). So gee, they find the first guy guilty on all 50 counts - he gets 2 years each - and serves them all concurrently. So did he get 100 years? Technically - and he's out in 1.

After the trial drags on for some 5 years he'll most likely have a much more reduced sentance (assuming he doesn't mouth off to the judge or something more contemptfull) and he'll get off in but a fraction of even that for good behaviour (assuming again he doesn't mouth off in jail or something more contemptfull). The idea is that it's a corrections system and they are looking to see if the fella recognizes the need for correction. Play it nice and calm and they'll let you slip out early rather then pay the massive expences it takes to keep you in.

Is that before or after you get AIDS?

Same thing with George Bush.

All that crap with equality and justice for all is pure bull****.

The laws are fine, it's just the people that need to be changed.
