Ok was in Alaska doing a mission against 12 order cruisers when Gheis did the jumpdrive test. And wow! I lost all shield, and 50% hull with a 10 second lagg. I do hope this is not going to be the norm whenever a group jumps.
It may have been the 40+ ships in Liberty during jump also.

I have figured out what was wrong about the group NY jump, though. Talked to Cannon a bit earlier, and now I know.
