Yes.
Just requires time and effort.
Better to actually use another engine such as Unity and work around it though.
Consider that we would need to rebuild everything.

New engine means new game. Whole game. It´s the same as say it about Half Life for example.
So is it possible? Yes
Is it achievable in modding community? Definitely no
Don´t forget that devs spend lot of months doing new version of mod, for what they have tools. So whole game? Impossible. Freelancer is like Transport Tycoon. It has lot of mods, but still have lot of problems and bugs which can´t be fixed...but it´s legend and we just love it :ylove:

There are more than a few people who are doing exactly this. I'm tempted to join them. It sounds like fun.
The biggest problem with FL modding is the lack of tools although oddly as we near the end of the FL life, we almost have all of the tools we need.

As for the new game engine.....everything's been stated already. Although.....I do have a contact at day 1 studios. I can try having a new moddable space flight sim mentioned for a hopefully new and better game(that can still be modded). Think im gonna have to do that......
