Hello! I have recently had the urge to roleplay in Freelancer recently, so I reinstalled the game and the Discovery mod. I started playing a bit with a loose rp story. Then I read Narcotic's character diary, which really got me motivated to try to do a serious roleplaying character.
I've been trying to develop a background for my character, as well as decide where he'll move from there. But I don't know enough about the game to figure that out. I know about the planets and the stations, as I will land on them and then read there infocards. However, I would like to know about the major corporations and business I could potentially join. To do so ingame would mean I'd have to travel the whole universe to read all the infocards, which my character wouldn't do...
So my question is if there is a place where I can read the background and lore of the different corporations.

Under the Factions board you can find Official factions (sorted by location mostly) as well as Unofficials (Other Factions and Groups). All of the Officials have an information topic describing the faction and giving the most neccessary info about them (as it is a requirement for officiality). Most of the Unofficial factions also have these info topics, so the Factions board is definitely where you should look around. I hope it helps.

Player factions' information threads cannot be counted as providing lore. Some of that information can be imaginative RP / lore.
Most of lore can be found through rumours, stations' infocards.

I think you'll find the Discovery Wiki a good place to start: http://discoverygc.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
Note that the Wiki is player-edited, and contains both canonical lore and player roleplay (the latter is usually in the form of character biographies). The content of the Wiki should provide a good guide to the mod's themes and roleplay, but be careful not to take anything there as absolute, particularly for rules-related concerns.

Y'know. Not a bad idea to have a history of the factions written up for every faction in the game. Most factions have a good description of who and what they are listed in the infocard for the faction though.

Thank you for all the replies! The wiki seems like a great place to start off looking, with Tyler's link to an infocard database for those places/areas I want to learn more specifics about. Once I narrow down whom I would potentially like to join, I can use the factions part of the forum as well:D
