-The captain is the name of a real life friend of mine.
KNF_Akatsuki ( The captain is based off of "The Last Samurai" except its a girl named Admiral Shiki.)
Elation (Is the name of a cruise liner part of the Carnival Cruise fleet.)
Tenabras (All the crew names are based off real life friends)

Xing KeSi - is actually a deformation fo my real name. It does sound chinese, but KeSi isn't possibly a real chinese name as a matter of fact.
Kyosuke Nanbu - from the video game Super Robot Taisen: Kyosuke Nanbu is the steel disciplined lieutenant pilot of a behemoth machine. However, my character on FL shares the personality of Zegar Zombolt from the same game; honourable samurai with mystic ways.
LNS Citadelle de Quebec - Isabelle is the name of a girl I've met on another game. We've met a few time (she lives in a city 100km away from mine), and she's in the Canadian Reserve Forces, with only a year older than I (in fact, she partly inspired me to go in the army as well)

most of m chars, are based of gods/godesses.
Proserpine is an egyptian god, so is Sceleris, sekhmet, and serapis (my keeper chars). one of the bs i have command over, has its name taken from an actual spanish warship (wont name the ship, for various reasons) Aethelu (my HF XO char) is a celtic name, Akashi tatsuharu my BD char, Baldur emmerich, my hessian is a random name i had in ym mind for a looong while.
most of the other char names are fusions of 2-3 diff names, eg: akashi tatsuharu, Reinaldo Anastas, Diego and Rodriguez Varquero (brothers in RP), Alejandro Emidio, etc. etc. etc.

Well...
Zapp was the name I've always used, and Zacarias Poncho (Zacarais Poncho) was how I explained the un-Outcast like callsign.
Jason Moore is based off of Jack Reacher and Jason Bourne, one of my favorite book series and my favorite movie series; his name was originally Jarod Moore, but then I realized that that was my trader's name so I changed it
Vic Chonody is based completely off the character "Mat Cauthon" from the Wheel of Time series, though I took a few creative liberties in both importing him into Freelancer and changing a few of his special abilities.
Carina is the name of a girl that sits next to me in math class (don't get any ideas, she's actually quite ugly), and when I was thinking of a name I just went through my classes until I found one I liked.
Giovanni Cordova and Esperanza Larez are both completely random, though you gotta admit that Giovanni Cordova is the coolest name you've ever heard.
The Giustizia is Italian for 'Justice'.
Matt Myers was pulled out of a hat. So was Wesley Richter and Jarod Mellows.

Boss came from an extended set of Wookieepedia-ing. Before that I was known as Lok Revnants, or Nym.
Shadow is the name of my cat.
Avenger. I used that one because I was ticked off.
I gotta rename my transport, but it's why I have my LPI. Boss.Mk.II. Look at the last half and what do you have? Markii, or Markee, or Markey.
Jim Markey, for reasons stated above, and because I thought Jim was cool.
Jeff is my uncle's name.
Joel Markey was just to continue the tradition of J names in the Markey family.
Derick is the name of a friend. Petersson came from his son, Peter. (Yeah, I know.)
Kiosk 042 from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Greg was named later; I was bored. Actually, I made up a name that fit my AI's name, since Greg made it.
Escort GJ, or Toaster. GJ because I was planning on flying a Griffin, but they're a bloody ways out. I then made it into an AI after an incident with a Harvester, and then named Greg after GJ. (Gregory Janssen)

Flagg - The name comes from the Steven King movie The Stand. Randall Flagg was the evil demon or devil leader that wanted to destroy Mother Abigail and her good followers. M-O-O-N... that spells Flagg. A very fitting name for a bloodthirsty Outcast pirate in my opinion.
Trader Joe - Just thought that was a cool name for a trader char.
[Lane_Security]. 003 - The first Lane Security character created, the idea of protecting the tradelanes and the name comes from the founder and CEO of the group, someone I helped get started and spent a lot of game-time with.
[Lane_Security]. Bravo - As above, only this is our Fighter Wing that we created.
Ageira. Natl. Bank - Created by me for the funding of new recruits for Lane Security and money towards our Official Faction Status. Myself and 2 other Lane Security members have been depositing funds into this from our trader chars.

Many of my Character (ie. RM characters, Kusari, Rogues) are names that I have seen on NPC's or gotten from German name Databases on the internet.

Ferdimond came from a Redwall book, but the character I use has nothing to do with the character from the book. Just has the same name.
Quintinius~Verginix is a character from 'The Edge Water Chronicles'. I chose it because the name has a neat-o ring to it. My IND charcters with name.Verginix use it simply as a last name, and are independant of my other characters.
