What value a thread? - Gytrash - 05-29-2012

So as you may or may not know I do tend to put a tiny amount of thought into the making of a flood thread. I'll generally put some effort into it and try to be somewhat amusing. However I feel that for some reason certain threads are valued more highly than others. Some threads live long and fruitful lives, safely protected under the benevolent gaze of Moderators and Users alike.

Other, less fortunate threads are consigned to the graveyard, scorned from their conception through no fault of their own. It is not the thread that chooses to be stupid, it is rather the thread's parent. The owners of threads need to be more careful, well enough to make a thread and claim it as being for Science but with some threads we have to step back and cry aloud, "What hath science wrought?!"

All threads are born equal, some more equal than others. Perhaps if we go down to the root cause of inequality among the ranks of threads it comes down to the original poster. We favour some mad scientists over others, We slavishly follow their monstrosities despite somewhat lackluster shamble and the fact that the arms tend to fall off. Whilst some monsters of a much higher quality slip past unnoticed, bolts shining and feet stumbling they shamble their way into the darkness never to be seen again.

This also may be something that happens with RolePlay stories, this forum can be very painful for new contenders. Their monsters are crushed beneath mounds of paperwork, people decry it's stitching and it's rotten flesh, not realising that more thought has been put into this monster than into the majority of monsters that pass by unnoticed.

I myself am considering making a monster myself, carefully robbing tombs and ransacking hardware shops for the perfect arms, legs and bolts to construct my very own Frankenstein's Monster. I would craft it with loving care, each of the components carefully chosen not to complement the others, to evoke a feeling of disgust and fear in all who look upon it.

I would then take my monster to the ring and throw it before the audience crying "BEHOLD WHAT SCIENCE HATH WROUGHT!" I would fire up my lightning generators and set my mood lighting. I would then watch as my monster was picked apart piece by piece.

"I say isn't that uncle Joe's arm? Can't be scary if it's got part of uncle Joe on it."
"That bolt looks far too tacky, the angle is just all wrong."
"This stitching looks like it was drawn on! My grandmother could do better stitching than that!"
"Oh exposed brains are so last century, this monster simply won't do. Go back and make another one."

Rejected I would bitterly return to my lab, cursing the name Discovery.

So yeah, threads are cool. RP is cool too.

Prepare for being disappointed due to the lack of disappointment expressed in a tread made by your kind of a mad scientist, because ponies.

My suggestion? Make an alt.

Also, mods are cruel like that indeed.

Slartry... While I like the movie 'O Brother..', it's just not in the same league that the rest of your profile references (namely the name and the location). I demand something more classy!
