Not really. Pretty much all the sounds can be quite closely written with 1 or 2 latin characters.

ж - zh (think Jeep)
э - e (this letter only in the Russian Cyrillic I think) the Z sound is з. Barely any difference I know.
я - ya
y - u (like in Ops, my bad!)
ю - it's the iu and it's like the first sound of Unity
